Troy Deeney thinks one former Arsenal player could be in with a chance of earning a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
The England team is a touchy subject in the Arsenal squad right now, despite five Gunners being in contention to make Tuchel’s World Cup lineup.
During the October international break, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Declan Rice and Myles Lewis-Skelly were on duty, but the latter faces a struggle.
Lewis-Skelly’s lack of game time is a concern for Tuchel, with changes set to happen before the World Cup squad is announced, which could interest one former Gunner.
Danny Welbeck has been in incredible form since signing for Brighton, still making his mark in the Premier League six years after leaving the Emirates.

Troy Deeney says former Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck should be called up to the England squad
Welbeck suffered so much trauma because of the injuries he sustained at Arsenal, making his resurgence all the more inspiring.
On matchday eight, the former Arsenal striker added to his goal tally for the season, scoring twice in Brighton’s win over Newcastle United.
Welbeck’s brace earned him a spot in Troy Deeney’s BBC Team of the Week, where the pundit went as far as to say that the veteran forward deserves an England call-up.
“Two goals for Brighton and even having people talking about him being called up by England. By the way, I obviously second that,” Deeney wrote.
“Wonderful performance as they beat Newcastle 2-1, and the ability to keep going. It seems the older he is getting, the more he is enjoying it.”
With his tally of ten Premier League goals last season, Welbeck would’ve been Arsenal’s top scorer.
The centre-forward is doing everything right late into his career, with there a real possibility that Tuchel’s head could be turned.
Mesut Ozil loved playing with Welbeck
Welbeck is thriving at Brighton, proving that one of the 34-year-old’s greatest strengths is being able to stand the test of time.
Over ten years ago, Mesut Ozil sang the striker’s praises when the pair combined during the Englishman’s first season at the Emirates.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website after Arsenal’s win over Aston Villa in September 2014, Ozil described Welbeck as a player who made things simpler for him.
“When you analyse [Welbeck’s] game, you notice that he makes a lot of runs and knows where he needs to be,” the German said.
“We’re pleased to have a striker like him here. He makes the game simpler for us through his runs and speed.”
Having played with some of the world’s best strikers, Ozil rated Welbeck incredibly highly, which goes to show just how underrated the Manchester United academy graduate has been throughout his career.
