David Raya and Martin Odegaard will both be fuming at Troy Deeney leaving them out of his Premier League Team of the Week.
Both Arsenal stars starred in the team’s 2-1 win over Brighton, with Odegaard scoring the opening goal and Raya producing one unbelievable save.
Which other Arsenal players should have made Troy Deeney’s Team of the Week?
Surely Odegaard and Raya should have made the cut?
The Gunners certainly weren’t at their best against the Seagulls, but their individual quality managed to get them over the line in the end.
Raya and Odegaard were both brilliant in the win at the Emirates Stadium and will rightly be fuming at who Deeney picked ahead of them.
Troy Deeney leaves David Raya and Martin Odegaard
David Raya and Martin Odegaard should both feel rightly aggrieved not to have been named in Troy Deeney’s BBC Sport Premier League Team of the Week.
In their place, the former Watford striker picked Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens and Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz.
Lammens produced an impressive clean sheet at home to Newcastle United; meanwhile, Wirtz scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool against Wolves.
Despite not stopping Brighton from scoring, Raya still produced the best save of the season to ensure that the Gunners left with all three points.
Change my mind, David Raya is the best Arsenal goalkeeper of the Emirates era.
Without the Spanish shot-stopper being on hand to save Yankuba Minteh’s effort, it’s unlikely that Arsenal would be sitting top of the Premier League right now.
Odegaard produced his best performance of the season against Brighton, and also his first goal to open the scoring.
Mikel Arteta also said it was Odegaard’s best display of the season so far, with the Norwegian international showing signs of getting back to his best.
Troy Deeney impressed by Declan Rice at right-back
One player who did make the cut was Declan Rice, and he even managed to do so despite playing as a right-back.
Rice impressed at right-back, with Arteta having to shift him there due to the Gunners’ injury crisis in defence.
Speaking about the midfielder, Deeney told the BBC: “Declan Rice filled in at right-back. He was still massively influential, marauding forward and defensively he was solid. He never had anyone at Brighton get at him. He just handled every situation well.”
The North London club will be desperate for Jurrien Timber to return from injury against Aston Villa, allowing the 26-year-old to move back into midfield.
