Two players who’d give Arsenal ‘huge’ title boost as ‘pressure’ mounts on Arteta

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Michael Brown has now explained why pressure is growing on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Having emerged as surprise Premier League title contenders last season, Mikel Arteta will have been aware that expectations of Arsenal were high heading into this campaign.

The first half of the season largely went to plan. The Gunners were top of the league table on Christmas Day, despite having lost the likes of Jurrien Timber, Thomas Partey, and Takehiro Tomiyasu, amongst others, to significant injuries in the first part of the season.

However, the New Year period was nothing short of a disaster for the north London club. Arteta’s side are now in awful form, having lost their last three matches. This run has included Premier League defeats at the hands of West Ham United and Fulham, and has also seen them get dumped out of the FA Cup by Liverpool.

Arsenal now find themselves in fourth-place in the league table and playing catch up in the title race. There are still good reasons to believe that Arsenal could be crowned champions at the end of this term. However, they need to get back on track quickly otherwise it really will be time to panic, as asserted by journalist Charles Watts.

Arteta would surely love to reinforce and improve his squad during the current January transfer window. However, a lack of financial resources is currently holding Arsenal back in that regard. The club will also be wary of not contravening any Premier League financial regulations, for fear of suffering the same kind of charges that were recently levelled at Everton and Nottingham Forest.

Arsenal told what to do in transfer window to relieve pressure on Mikel Arteta

As things stand, Arsenal’s season is on a knife edge. BBC Sport pundit Michael Brown has now given his verdict on where the Gunners stand and what they must strive to do this month. He said, “because of last season, there is actually more pressure on Arsenal now to be up in the top three. And, if you give Mikel Arteta the choice, then he would rather be on top at this current moment. However, they just need to stay with it as they have had a mixed run of results.”

“Where are they going to end up? That is the difficult thing to project. Everyone is looking at them, wondering what is next and how they are going to keep improving. Will they go to the market and strengthen by signing a number nine?”

“They are not wasting money if the right deal is there. If they are looking at Dominic Solanke or Ivan Toney and the money is right, then go and do it. That would be a huge push for them then towards the title. They could do with somebody.”

Arsenal could really use a new striker, as Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have both underperformed this season. The Gunners have most recently been linked with an ambitious move for former Real Madrid star Karim BenzemaIvan Toney and Dominic Solanke, as noted by Brown, are also names that have come up regularly as potential signings. Solanke has even been urged to push for a move to Arsenal.

Even if Arsenal cannot get another player through the door this month, Arteta needs to find a way of getting the players he already has playing with confidence again.
