Viktor Gyokeres is now close to matching Roy Keane’s prediction of 20 goals for the Arsenal striker just after his debut versus Manchester United.
The 27-year-old has had a mixed spell at Arsenal so far this season, but is currently on 15 goals in all competitions for the Gunners.
🔮 How many more goals will Viktor Gyokeres score for Arsenal this season?
Viktor Gyokeres is now just five goals away from matching the tally that Roy Keane suggested he would reach, and that the Gunners would have been pleased with.
The former Manchester United captain has almost perfectly predicted how the Swede would get on at the Emirates Stadium, suggesting that he would ‘not be pretty’ to watch, which is fair to say is also true.
Roy Keane backed Viktor Gyokeres to score 20 goals for Arsenal
Just after his debut at Old Trafford, Keane backed Gyokeres to score 20 goals for Arsenal this season.
The ex-United star felt that the striker was not the most flattering player to watch, but he felt like he would still do his job in terms of finding the back of the net.
Recently, Gyokeres has looked fitter and tried to play to his strengths at Arsenal by bullying defenders, rather than always looking to make runs in behind.
It worked against Tottenham perfectly as Gyokeres netted a brace, and the Gunners hope he can now kick on and break through Keane’s 20-goal target.
After the first game of the season, Keane told Stick to Football: “He’s not silky, is he? I think he’s one of these where you might constantly talk about probably things he doesn’t do, but he’ll end up scoring you lots of goals.
Having seen both strikers in the Premier League, who would you sign for Arsenal now: Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres?
“I think so. He’s that old-fashioned striker, the way he runs. It’s not pretty to look at. But come the end of the season, I bet you’re going to listen, he’s got us 20 goals.”
Keane seems to have perfectly predicted how the striker fares in North London, and the striker will surely be eager to surpass the 20-goal mark.
Gyokeres would love to score against his former club, Brighton, in what should be a rather tricky game at the AMEX on Wednesday evening.
