The title race has been a painful topic for Wayne Rooney in recent years, as Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have battled for the title.

Being a Manchester United icon, Rooney has been living a nightmare in the title race as recent frontrunners include his fiercest rivals.

This season, Rooney has liked what he’s seen from Arsenal, who currently lead the way with a six-point advantage over Man City.

Having seen Man City and Liverpool win the title over the previous eight years, it’s no surprise that Rooney wants Arsenal to win the league this term, but he doesn’t think it’ll be easy.

Opta says Arsenal have an 80 per cent chance of winning the Premier League this season. What percentage chance would you give the Gunners?

Wayne Rooney shares his latest Premier League title race prediction

Arsenal are operating at a level that few teams can compete with this season, hence the six-point gap at the top.

There is, however, a very wary eye on Man City, who are experts at chasing teams, specifically Arsenal, down in the Premier League title race.

Rooney thinks Man City could cause Arsenal problems as Pep Guardiola’s side show glimpses of returning to their best, which makes the remainder of the season difficult to predict.

“I think it’s between City and Arsenal, and I think Arsenal will have too much, but I’m really interested to see what happens towards the end of the season if City are still within this distance of them,” Rooney just said on The Wayne Rooney Show

The Premier League legend then admitted that it pains him to imagine Man City hunting Arsenal down again.

“I think City will be there at the end of the season, as much as it pains me to say, I think they will be right on Arsenal’s tail.

“If Arsenal slip up, I think they will potentially try and take over.”

Arsenal will be expecting Guardiola’s side to take them to the wire, making the focus on earning three points every week all the more strenuous.

The top six games that Manchester City and Arsenal face before playing each other

At present, Arsenal lead, but things can change so quickly in the Premier League, which is why the clash between the two clubs in April could be decisive.

Man City host Arsenal on the 18th of April, five matchdays before the season ends, setting it up to be a spectacle.

The clash could be decisive, but it could also stand for just another game if Arsenal widen the gap before the two teams meet.

There’s a possibility to do so, as Man City have a tough run of fixtures remaining, facing four away trips to Big Six clubs before Arsenal’s visit.

Guardiola’s side will face Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea away from home before meeting Arsenal, while the Gunners’ only Big Six away game in that time is Spurs.

The schedule certainly reads in Arteta’s favour, making it imperative that Arsenal keep collecting points to take the pressure away from the game at the Etihad on matchday 33.
