Arsenal are under intense scrutiny this season as they go in search of their first major trophy since 2020.
Mikel Arteta is under pressure to deliver a trophy and after spending in excess of £250m this summer, that pressure has been ramped up.
Arsenal are a hot topic of discussion for fans and pundits alike and do not always get spoken about in glowing terms.
Many believe the Gunners have underachieved in recent seasons and Wayne Rooney has revealed why former England manager Roy Hodgson was furious over what the club did back in 2023.

Wayne Rooney reveals Roy Hodgson’s anger over Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal statue
Speaking on the latest episode of ‘The Wayne Rooney Show’, former England striker Rooney has revealed the fury from Hodgson over Arsene Wenger’s statue at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal unveiled a statue of their former manager back in 2023 and Hodgson is of the belief that he should have one too for his services to the game both in England and abroad.
Rooney stated: “Yeah, we were talking about Arsene Wenger getting a statue at Arsenal today. I didn’t actually know the background, Malmo, was it?
“When he was in Sweden. So I didn’t actually know the background of it. He just went on some mad rant about why he should have a statue at Malmo.
“And I’m just like engaging. He’s like, oh, Arsene Wenger has got one here. I should have one here.”
How Roy Hodgson’s managerial record compares to Arsene Wenger
Both managers have won several league titles, however Hodgson never achieved the feat of winning the Premier League.
Hodgson enjoyed success during his time in Scandinavia, where he won four Swedish league titles with Malmo and Halmstads, before winning the Danish league with FC Copenhagen.
Wenger won three Premier League titles in England and also lifted the French title with Monaco. He has also won the FA Cup more than any other manager.
| Arsene Wenger v Roy Hodgson | Matches | Won | Drew | Lost | Points | Points per game |
| Wenger | 1793 | 971 | 406 | 416 | 3319 | 1.85 |
| Hodgson | 960 | 385 | 253 | 322 | 1408 | 1.47 |
For the sheer amount of games managed and his lasting impression on his players and coaching staff, Hodgson may well deserve recognition in some capacity for his services to the game.
However, his achievements do not come close to Wenger, a man that changed the landscape of English football forever.
