Arsenal v Man City is in the books and while the game didn’t go the way of the Gunners, Wayne Rooney believes the fixture being done with could actually help Arsenal.

Erling Haaland’s winner was enough to separate the two teams but Arsenal did have chances to win, albeit they also got lucky with Gabriel not getting sent off.

At the end, City celebrated very much like they’d either won something or at worst, struck a huge dagger in the heart of the Gunners.

Indeed, according to Wayne Rooney, Arsenal could well use City’s celebrations as inspiration.

Wayne Rooney believes Man City celebrated too early after beating Arsenal

We’ve seen Arsenal criticised in the past for over-celebrating and now it seems like it’s City’s turn to come under the microscope.

Sure enough, according to Rooney, Arsenal still might have the last laugh after City’s antics.

“I think it went a bit over the top, I do yeah,” Rooney said on Match of the Day.

“I think it’s six games to go for City and over the top I felt. It was a big win obviously but I also think Arsenal have got to pick themselves up from that as well.

“I also think Arsenal will be relieved as well that that game’s been and gone. Now they’ve got five games left, if they win them, they’ve got a big chance of winning the league.

“I just think it’s a bit premature from City, and it might come back to bite them.”

Who Alan Shearer believes will now be Premier League champions

The title race is still tight but it is really City who have the confidence and form at the moment.

Arsenal know now they simply cannot make another mistake. If they do, then City will simply capitalise and we could end up with a title race that ends before the final weekend of the campaign.

Indeed, according to Alan Shearer, the title is now on its way back to Manchester.

“Yeah, I always felt as if City won this game, I think with the form they are in, the experience they have, and the momentum they’ve got, I do believe they’ll now go on and win it,” Shearer said after the game.

“It just feels like that, looking at Pep, looking at Haaland, looking at their fans in the stadium and listening to it, you get that feeling that’s exactly how they are feeling as well.”

Arsenal can only go on and win their own games and hope for the best.

We’ve seen twists and turns in the Premier League numerous times over the years. Arsenal, then, will be hoping City have one more big error in them.
