Matteo Tognozzi is expected to join Arsenal.
The Italian, who worked as a scout at Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus before becoming the sporting director of Granada, is wanted by Andrea Berta at the Emirates.
Reports have claimed that Tognozzi is in ‘advanced talks’ to join Arsenal, and many in the game feel he would be a great addition to Berta’s team.
But what do people who have seen him work closely really think about him?
People around Juventus can’t speak highly enough of Arsenal-bound Matteo Tognozzi
If you wondered who Matteo Tognozzi is when you saw the Arsenal links, you’re not the only one.
It’s not common for scouts to be too popular, but many in Italy, especially around his old club Juventus, are more than familiar with the 38-year-old.
Berta, who is Italian himself and was in Spain during Tognozzi’s time at Granada, would’ve been very aware of his abilities.
That is why he is trying to bring him to Arsenal, and Charles Watts has given an insight into what people in and around Juventus really think about him.
In his column on Caught Offside, he wrote: “I’ve spoken to people around the Juventus bubble and they can’t speak highly enough about him and his ability to spot a good young player.
“He is credited with a lot of the better transfer business they have done in recent years, including the deals that saw talents such as Dean Huijsen and Kenan Yildiz arrive.
“So it looks like being a good addition to the recruitment team at Arsenal and is a clear sign that Andrea Berta is now starting to put his stamp on the club following his arrival as sporting director.”

Andrea Berta could bring more people to Arsenal
Matteo Tognozzi’s appointment proves that Berta is putting his own stamp on Arsenal.
The new Gunners sporting director has a wealth of experience at the top level in Europe, and his network is extensive as well.
Tognozzi looks like he will be coming in soon, but Watts thinks more people will be brought in by Berta to help him out at Arsenal.
“I don’t think this will be the last addition either. I think we will see more follow Tognozzi to Arsenal as Berta builds up his own network,” he wrote.
It will be interesting to see how Berta’s team will look in the coming months.
