Andrea Berta is beginning to make his mark at Arsenal.

Arsenal released 20 players this week, which included first-team stars Kieran Tierney and Jorginho as Raheem Sterling returned to Chelsea.

Berta has sent shockwaves around Europe for his ‘aggressive’ stance in the transfer window so far and he now is compiling his own team at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are in talks for Matteo Tognozzi to join Berta’s recruitment team at the club according to journalist Fabrizio Romano and Tognozzi has a decent track record when it comes to his time at Juventus.

Matteo Tognozzi’s best signings

Tognozzi left Juventus back in 2023 to take over as Granada’s sporting director. He spent seven years in Turin and was the mastermind behind a number of high-profile signings.

Arsenal Insider has explored some of Tognozzi’s transfer business and compiled a list of his most successful deals.

Dusan Vlahovic

Arsenal tried to sign Dusan Vlahovic in 2022 but were ultimately beaten to the punch by Tognozzi and Juventus for the Serbian.

Vlahovic joined Juventus from Serie A rivals Fiorentina for just over £70m and went on to score 56 goals in 142 games for the Old Lady.

However, it is widely reported that Vlahovic is set to leave the Italian giants this summer but Arsenal fans have told Vlahovic it is too late to join the Gunners.

Dean Huijsen

Arsenal tried to sign ‘generational’ talent Dean Huijsen before he agreed to join Real Madrid this summer and the Bournemouth defender is another player that was signed by Tognozzi at Juventus.

Huijsen was scouted by Tognozzi and deemed good enough for the Juventus first-team before being sent out on loan to Roma.

Bournemouth signed the Spanish defender last summer and if Tognozzi was still at the club, that may have been a transfer that would have been blocked given the talents of the 20-year-old.

Kenan Yildiz

Kenan Yildiz was poached by Tognozzi from Bayern Munich’s youth academy and has gone on to become one of Juventus’s hottest properties.

Yildiz made 48 appearances this season and impressed by scoring nine goals and creating a further seven at just 20 years of age.

Tognozzi’s eye for young talent will be music to Mikel Arteta’s ears and will also give Per Mertesacker a boost for the Arsenal academy.

Samuel Iling-Junior

Samuel Iling-Junior was discovered by Tognozzi back in 2022 and ended up securing Juventus a considerable transfer fee following his move to Aston Villa.

Villa paid £11.8m for Iling-Junior last summer before the player spent loan spells at Bologna and Middlesbrough.

Arsenal have been criticised for failing to make profits on sales in recent years and with Tognozzi’s eye, that could soon change as even those players that don’t quite make the grade at the Gunners can have enough talent to bring in a fee.
