Andrea Berta could prove to be Arsenal’s saviour this season.
The Italian became the club’s sporting director in March this year, and he was tasked with the biggest transfer window in recent memory.
Berta delivered eight new signings and also managed to extend the contracts of Myles Lewis-Skelly, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ethan Nwaneri and William Saliba.
One of his summer signings could make a serious difference now – Piero Hincapie.
Andrea Berta forced the Arsenal board to sign Piero Hincapie and that could pay off now
Everyone hoped for a big summer transfer window, but even the most optimistic Arsenal supporter wouldn’t have predicted eight new signings.
Andrea Berta used his experience and contacts to make that happen, but not every deal was easy to complete.
According to Football London, the Arsenal board, led by owner Stan Kroenke, thought their summer business was done after the completion of their sixth signing, Viktor Gyokeres.
There were no plans to sanction any more moves, but Berta stepped in and convinced the decision-makers of the club to approve two more signings – Eberechi Eze and Hincapie.
The Arsenal board gave the green light after listening to their sporting director, and the Ecuador international centre-back could now save the season.
Gabriel has suffered an injury that could sideline him for the games against Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
With Riccardo Calafiori also nursing a minor injury, Hincapie is likely to get the nod next to William Saliba, and that is very reassuring for Arsenal fans.
If the Bayer Leverkusen loanee was not available, the Gunners would’ve had to deploy a right-footed player in place of Gabriel, which would’ve upset the balance of the team.
Thanks to Berta’s deal for Hincapie, Arsenal can confidently go into their tough run of fixtures and come out of it without too much damage.

What will Piero Hincapie bring to this Arsenal side?
Hincapie has played just 170 minutes of football for Arsenal so far, so fans aren’t fully aware of what he is capable of.
The Ecuadorian’s main role was expected to be at left-back as a backup this season, but he is more than capable of doing a job in the heart of the defence.
For those wondering what he will bring to the side, here’s what Mikel Arteta said, as per TBR Football: “What you’re going to see is his aggression, his determination. He’s a player who goes full gas to every single action, especially in defending.
“With the ball, whether he plays as a left centre-back or a full-back, a player who is very clean on the ball. Again, someone who really wants to penetrate, whether it’s with the ball, his positioning, and it will bring a different character and emotion to the team.”
