Arsenal are still seeking an attacking reinforcement ahead of the looming transfer deadline to help fire them to silverware this season.

Arsenal had a bid rejected for Ollie Watkins earlier in the window and are looking to sign a striker following Gabriel Jesus being ruled out for the season with an acl injury.

Bukayo Saka is also injured and despite scoring five against Pep Guardiola’s Man City in the Premier League, manager Mikel Arteta is desperate for more options in attack.

Arsenal have until 11pm on 3rd February to complete any deal on January’s transfer deadline day and perhaps need to take inspiration from a signing the club made on the same day 16 years ago.

Arsenal signed Andrei Arshavin on transfer deadline day in 2009

Arsenal could do with another signing like they produced on the 3rd February 2009 as they sealed a move for Russian forward Andrei Arshavin.

Arshavin was one of Europe’s hottest properties after lighting up the 2008 European Championships for Russia and Arsene Wenger swooped in to prize the Russian away from Zenit St Petersburg.

Having scored 31 times and produced 45 assists in his 144 games for the Gunners, Arshavin is fondly remembered by Arsenal fans for his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal would love to be able to find a player in the similar mould to Arshavin, the ability to play across the forward line and a brilliant ball striker when given the opportunity in front of goal.

Arshavin once scored four goals for Arsenal in the Premier League at Anfield

Arshavin’s greatest moment in an Arsenal shirt was undoubtedly his incredible performance at Anfield in a 4-4 draw in the Premier League.

Liverpool were trying to win the title and Arsenal went into the game fighting for a Champions League place, up stepped the Russian to score four incredible goals on the night.

The Russian international also scored a winning goal against Lionel Messi’s Barcelona in the 2011 Champions League last-16 tie but the Gunners eventually lost the tie.

Arsenal will be hoping they can do some business before the deadline, it would be a bonus to acquire a player of Andrei Arshavin’s quality.
