Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler couldn’t believe that his side didn’t score against Arsenal, and it’s clear to see why.
Arsenal’s defensive record is tremendous, which is why the Gunners are the team to beat in Europe right now.
Brighton were the latest to attempt to bring Mikel Arteta’s side down a peg, but they failed, as Arsenal progressed to the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win at the Emirates.
In the process, Arsenal actually set an English football record, something Fabian Hurzeler might not be able to get his head around.

Brighton really put Arsenal to the test, but Fabian Hurzeler was left frustrated
Arsenal became the first team in English top-flight history to keep six clean sheets across three different competitions in the same month.
Though Arsenal’s defensive record is being spoken about a lot, Hurzeler left the match at the Emirates wondering how his side didn’t score.
“You don’t usually get as many chances in a game against Arsenal so you have to score the goals and if you do that you are in the next round,” Hurzeler said in his post-match press conference.
“We had several shots but couldn’t score so that is frustrating. Their first goal changed the game – it’s not easier to score goals here.”
The Brighton boss described the game as a ‘missed opportunity’, and when looking at the numbers, it’s clear to see why.
Remarkably, Arsenal conceded more shots on target against Brighton than they had in their previous five matches combined.
The Seagulls fired six shots on target at Kepa Arrizabalaga, yet in the five matches prior, Arsenal conceded a total of five shots on target.
It’s an absolutely crazy and almost unbelievable statistic that only reinforces why Hurzeler carried some disbelief away from the match.
Arsenal’s record in October 2025 was ridiculous
The win over Brighton confirmed that Arsenal had made it through October with full marks.
It’s been an incredible month for the Gunners, who sit top of the Premier League table, faultless in the Champions League and through to the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
Arsenal’s incredible record in October
6 matches
6 wins
6 clean sheets
12 goals scored
11 shots on target conceded
In three different competitions, Arsenal won six games, scored 12 goals, conceded nothing and, most impressively, only allowed their opponent to fire 11 shots on target.
Considering that Brighton were responsible for six of the 11 shots on target, there’s really no arguing that Arsenal have the best defence in England right now.
It was a record-breaking month, but one that will mean nothing if consistency isn’t maintained as the season progresses.
