Arsenal may be forced to sign ‘scary’ £84m player now because of Pep Guardiola

Arsenal are still looking for new players this summer despite already making six new signings.

The North Londoners kicked off their business by bringing in Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, and that signing was followed by the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard. Then, Arsenal signed Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres.

Yet, Mikel Arteta wants more. “We are actively looking at options,” the Arsenal manager said after the Emirates Cup win against Athletic Club.

The Gunners may now find themselves in a position where they have just one option left.

Arsenal may be forced to sign Rafael Leao this summer

Arsenal have been linked with a number of attackers this summer, but four names have been more prominent than the others.

They are Rodrygo of Real Madrid, Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon and AC Milan’s Portuguese superstar Rafael Leao.

Arsenal fans would be happy with any of the above names, but the Gunners may be forced to go all out for one of them now.

That’s because Manchester City are interested in signing Rodrygo from Real Madrid now, while Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Eze is keen to join Tottenham.

Gordon will be extremely difficult to sign this summer because it looks like Newcastle will end up losing Alexander Isak. There’s no way they will sell two star attackers in the same window.

That leaves Leao, who could now become the only top-class winger left for Arsenal to sign before the window shuts on the first day of September.

We won’t be upset if Arsenal sign Leao – he is exactly who the Gunners need – and having no other choice but to go for him may well prove to be a blessing in disguise.

However, Leao is expected to cost around £84 million, which would make him Arsenal’s biggest signing of the window and second-most-expensive of all time.

Pep Guardiola could be about to do Arsenal a favour

Arsenal are big admirers of Rodrygo, and he is a phenomenal player.

The Brazilian has been incredible for Real Madrid over the years, and signing him would be a really tempting option because of his quality and experience.

However, Rodrygo is best suited on the left wing when he has an overlapping left-back behind him. Arsenal have Myles Lewis-Skelly, Riccardo Calafiori and Oleksandr Zinchenko, all of whom tend to invert.

The Gunners would be better off signing a winger who hugs the touchline and is devastating in 1v1 situations.

Leao, hailed for possessing ‘scary’ potential by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is perfect for that, so Pep Guardiola would be doing Arsenal a big favour by luring Rodrygo to the Etihad Stadium.
