Arsenal fans are growing in belief that this may finally be the year the club ends their trophy drought.

The last piece of silverware came in Mikel Arteta’s first season at the club with an FA Cup triumph over Chelsea back in 2020.

A Premier League title has evaded the Gunners since their incredible ‘Invincible’ triumph back in 2004 but Andrea Berta’s impressive transfer window has got the supporters adamant that their time is upon them.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is ‘excited’ about Noni Madueke arriving in North London and Arsenal may now finally have their own version of one of the Premier League’s deadliest marksmen.

Viktor Gyokeres and Mohamed Salah share a similar career path

Mohamed Salah contributed 29 goals and 18 assists on his way to firing Liverpool to the Premier League title last season.

Many supporters and pundits have compared Bukayo Saka to the Egyptian wizard for their similar role on the right wing and direct style of play.

Saka was superb for Arsenal last season, despite missing four months of the season with hamstring surgery he was still the club’s top goal contributor.

However, Viktor Gyokeres cannot wait to score for Arsenal following his arrival from Sporting Lisbon and may be the real answer to Liverpool’s king.

Both Gyokeres and Salah were discarded by Premier League clubs early in their careers, before refining their games abroad.

Salah was sold by Chelsea to Serie A outfit Roma and then returned to England with the Merseyside club in 2017 and has taken the league by storm since.

For Gyokeres, he was loaned out by Brighton on multiple occasions before completing a permanent move to Coventry.

After impressing in the Championship, Sporting Lisbon took their chance on the Swede and turned him into one of Europe’s most feared strikers.

Mohamed Salah sets benchmark for Viktor Gyokeres

There is a lot of expectation on the shoulders of Gyokeres this season and supporters believe he is the missing piece to the Arsenal puzzle that is winning a major honour.

Adapting to the English top flight won’t be easy but Gyokeres has the physical and mental attributes to be a success.

Salah had a slight advantage having made 13 appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea already, but returned with a sensational season in the 2017-18 campaign.

Gyokeres may not reach those heights, however, he will be keen to have a similar impact in raising the level of Arsenal’s attack this season.

Giving Mikel Arteta’s side a focal point up top and a threat in behind will go a long way towards turning the team’s 14 draws last season into more points this campaign.
