Arsenal and Manchester City share a very fierce rivalry.

Pep Guardiola’s side fell off last season, but in the previous two campaigns, Arsenal went toe-to-toe with them in the Premier League title race.

City have already spent a fortune to get back to where they were, but the Gunners aren’t sitting quietly either.

Arsenal have all but signed Martin Zubimendi, and that deal could end up hurting Manchester City and Guardiola in a year’s time.

How Arsenal signing Martin Zubimendi could weaken Manchester City

Martin Zubimendi made a lot of headlines over the last few weeks.

The Spain international has been one of the best midfielders in La Liga for a few years now, and his performances have attracted interest from a ton of clubs.

Real Madrid tried really hard to sign Zubimendi in recent weeks, but the Galacticos have had to accept defeat because the Spaniard is heading to Arsenal.

AS have now claimed that Xabi Alonso’s side are set to stick with what they have right now, but Real Madrid’s plan is to make a move for Manchester City superstar Rodri this time next year.

The Sky Blues lost the Spaniard to a serious injury early last campaign, and that completely ruined their season. They looked nothing like their usual selves without him.

Rodri will enter the final 12 months of his contract next year, and Real Madrid’s plan is to lure him away for a reasonable fee at that stage to compensate for missing out on Zubimendi to Arsenal.

If that happens, City will become weaker, and the rest of the Premier League should owe Arsenal a big thank you.

Martin Zubimendi can become Arsenal’s Rodri – Spain manager explains how

Rodri’s injury didn’t just come as a big blow for Manchester City, but Spain had to do without him as well.

However, La Roja were more fortunate than Guardiola and his side because they had the next best option to replace Rodri right in their squad – Zubimendi.

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente raved about the incoming Arsenal midfielder in October by saying, as per Sportstar: “Zubimendi has been playing (brilliant) games for a long time, if Rodri is the best player, then Zubimendi is the second best in this position.

“He’s got experience under his belt, he oozes security through every pore of his skin. Martin doesn’t get nervous… he’s a very mature player, so calm… Zubi is a sure bet, who never fails.”

That just proves that Zubimendi can become Arsenal’s own Rodri, and the fact that he is younger means he can go on to be even better than the Manchester City player in the coming years
