This summer marks two years since Granit Xhaka left Arsenal, with his journey at Bayer Leverkusen being quite the impressive story in the seasons since.

The Swiss international had quite a mixed time at the Emirates Stadium, moving from hero to villain and back to hero once again.

Granit Xhaka had tense times with the Arsenal fans, but a tweak of position under Mikel Arteta changed everything.

In a more advanced role, the experienced star cemented himself as a hero to supporters before an eventual exit.

Xhaka moved to Bayer Leverkusen, with Edu Gaspar sanctioning his exit, and he has impressed since, helping them go on to win the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal in his first year.

However, despite that, the 32-year-old could be set for an exit this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen willing to let Granit Xhaka leave for just £14m

Performances over the past two seasons have shown that Arsenal perhaps made an error in letting Xhaka leave in 2023.

While there may be some regret, that can be quickly rectified, as the midfielder could actually be available this summer.

According to Swiss outlet Blick, Xhaka is considering his options this summer as Bayer Leverkusen undergo a series of changes under new head coach Erik ten Hag.

The Bundesliga outfit have already lost Jeremie Frimpong and look set to lose Florian Wirtz to Liverpool in a huge switch.

With three years remaining on his deal, it’s claimed that £14 million could be enough to secure a switch for Xhaka.

Interested clubs include those in Saudi Arabia, as well as former club Basel, which Xhaka has hinted at returning to in the future.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal will enter the race to sort out a return for the midfielder, though it’s one they should definitely consider.

Some of that may depend on how the central ranks look for the Gunners moving forward.

Arsenal’s midfield conundrum this summer

Arsenal’s midfield is largely complete, if not for one main decision that the Gunners find themselves facing.

Talks are ongoing with Thomas Partey for a new contract, but there are concerns as to whether he will sign it or not.

Should he actually leave, there may well be space to land another midfielder for the Gunners in the near future.

While Martin Zubimendi will join Arsenal, he is likely to replace Jorginho, meaning there is capacity for another midfield option.

It remains to be seen if Xhaka could be that, given his profile and where he is in his career, or if a younger option would be considered in that eventuality.
