Arsenal must revive two-year scouting mission to land ‘perfect’ Mikel Arteta striker

Arsenal have entered the final days of the summer transfer window without signing a new striker.

The Gunners have strengthened their squad really well. David Raya has joined the club permanently after a hugely successful loan spell, while Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino are Arsenal players now as well.

That makes Mikel Arteta’s side stronger than they were at the end of the 2023/24 season, but there is still one void that many people think Arsenal should fill before the window shuts – a new striker.

There is now a new name that has been making the rounds all over social media.

Arsenal should sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool

Darwin Nunez has divided opinion in the Premier League since his first day at Liverpool.

The Uruguay international was an absolute superstar in his final season at Benfica. A number of clubs across Europe were interested in signing him.

Arsenal had Nunez on their shortlist in 2022, but after a lot of speculation, Liverpool managed to sign him for a club-record £85 million fee.

Nunez has come under immense criticism for some of the chances he has missed, and that has pushed him down the pecking order at Anfield.

The former Benfica star started just one of Liverpool’s last six games of the 2023/24 season, and he has only played 18 minutes of football under Arne Slot this time around.

With Liverpool closing in on a move for Federico Chiesa, the Reds may not need Nunez anymore, and we think Arsenal should take advantage of the situation.

A cheeky bid in the final days of the window with the lure of playing more games at Arsenal under a world-class manager like Arteta could tempt the Uruguay international to seal a late switch.

Despite all the criticism, we think Nunez would be an incredible signing for Arsenal this summer.

What would Darwin Nunez bring to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal?

Arsenal were very keen to sign Nunez two years ago, which means he has something in his game that Arteta and Edu really like.

Arsenal have surely watched him over the last two years – just like they did with Kai Havertz after he joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen. That convinced them to sign him in 2023.

In the same way, we think Arsenal should revive that two-year scouting mission and sign Nunez because he has all the qualities to succeed at the Emirates.

The Uruguay international will bring a bit of chaos to Arsenal’s attack. Nunez is similar to Gabriel Jesus in that regard but with a lot more physicality.

The Liverpool star is absolutely rapid too, and he would add a whole new dimension to Arsenal’s attack.

Arteta has revived the careers of several players after signing them for Arsenal. Nunez, who was described as ‘perfect‘ for Liverpool, would be even better in North London.

He should be the next target and we think he will explode under Arteta.
