Arsenal are preparing themselves for a busy January transfer window as Mikel Arteta requires reinforcements.
It’s unclear what work the Gunners will do in January however, what’s clear is that there is a lot to be done.
First, Arsenal must continue their hunt for a sporting director following Edu Gaspar’s surprise departure, with several candidates sounded out.
Added to that, there’s a belief that Arsenal need to sign a striker to bolster their chances of winning silverware, with an interesting development happening in the Premier League.

Arsenal could be alerted to Marcus Rashford transfer stance
Before leaving, Edu compiled a five-man striker shortlist for Arsenal, with fans longing for a reliable goalscorer at the Emirates.
As the search for a venomous number nine goes on, it’s become clear that one attacker close to home could be available in the near future.
Manchester United could cash in on Marcus Rashford as Ruben Amorim continues to settle into his role, with the forward having been linked to the Gunners before.
Arteta decided against signing Rashford in the summer, which could change now that the player is available for transfer.
Man United want £40m for Rashford’s services, a price affordable for Arsenal but a price that should be heavily considered despite the urgency to strengthen going forward.
Gabriel Jesus and others have proved why Arsenal should avoid Rashford
Having only scored seven goals last season, Rashford has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford to some degree.
Despite there still very much being a player there who could revive his career, Arsenal must avoid interest given how history has panned out for Arteta when signing from within the Premier League.
| Player | Signed from |
| Gabriel Jesus | Man City |
| Oleksandr Zinchenko | Man City |
| Jorginho | Chelsea |
| Cedric Soares | Southampton |
| Willian | Chelsea |
| Mat Ryan | Brighton |
| Raheem Sterling | Chelsea |
Above are some of the less successful Arteta signings from Premier League clubs, with Wednesday night’s showing against Monaco sending a very clear message about recruiting unwanted forwards from rivals.
Gabriel Jesus failed to take his chances against Monaco and has all in all been a very underwhelming signing for Arsenal, arriving from Manchester City in 2022.
When considering the alternatives that the Gunners could have signed instead, it’s a rather painful decision that could be considered as costly in the silverware department.
Adding Rashford to the squad, a player not wanted by United, gives no guarantee that their previous fortune will change, which should surely alert Arteta.
