Viktor Gyokeres’ replacement at Sporting CP, Luis Suarez, has made quite a brilliant start to life in Portugal, which should worry Arsenal.

Despite the departure of their big-name striker, Gyokeres, in the summer, Sporting appear to be coping just fine without him.

Arsenal paid £63 million for Gyokeres in the summer, with the striker having netted 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese giants.

However, Gyokeres is really struggling at Arsenal, and it appears as though the North London club made the wrong decision in moving for him.

There are now genuine concerns over his suitability for Premier League football, and even more so now, with Suarez flying in the Portuguese league.

Viktor Gyokeres’ replacement at Sporting CP, Luis Suarez, is really impressing following his summer move to Jose Alvalade Stadium.

The 28-year-old has scored 11 goals in 15 matches in Liga Portugal, highlighting the standard of the top division.

Last season, Gyokeres scored 39 league goals in 33 matches, which is quite an impressive record, but really should have been taken with a pinch of salt.

Just a few weeks back, Jamie Carragher said that before his move to the Premier League, he had been made aware of concerns about whether Gyokeres was good enough for Arsenal.

It’s hard to write him off at the Emirates Stadium just yet, but considering his recent performances and Suarez making a strong start to life in Portugal, it’s not a good look.

There is a long list of strikers who have come from the Portuguese league and struggled in the Premier League, including Joao Felix, Darwin Nunez, Fabio Silva, and Islam Slimani.

Right now, Gyokeres looks set to join that list, as he just appears to be an awkward fit in Mikel Arteta’s team.

Arteta should not take any chances by starting Gyokeres against Aston Villa, in what could be a decisive match in the Premier League title race.

The 27-year-old just can’t seem to do much right at the moment, and instead of playing him into form, the Spanish coach must look elsewhere.

Mikel Merino seems to be the most obvious candidate, although Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli are the other options who could play there.

Martinelli could be a real curveball option to play down the middle and try to cause havoc against Unai Emery’s team.
