Ben White’s career at Arsenal has been turned upside down by injury, causing the defender to slip down the pecking order.

It wasn’t long ago that White was considered irreplaceable in the Arsenal squad, but now, the Englishman can barely get a game.

The right-back’s place in the starting XI has been swiped by Jurrien Timber, who doesn’t look as though he’s going to give up that privilege anytime soon.

Competing with Arsenal’s most consistent player has given White an impossible task to get back into the favoured XI, but making the starting lineup is the least of his concerns.

Given how much the £50m defender’s minutes have dropped, it came as no surprise to learn that Arsenal are open to selling White.

Any doubts about what the future has in store for White were answered on matchday 13, as the 28-year-old was an unused substitute at Chelsea, despite William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes being out. 

Mikel Arteta opted to start new signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie in central defence rather than calling upon White, despite him having more experience.

The Arsenal manager’s squad selection at Stamford Bridge all but signalled that White has no future at the club, as Arteta trusted his new wave of defenders over his 2021 signing.

Hincapie and Mosquera had a testing start against Chelsea, and despite the pair’s inexperience, Arteta persevered rather than calling upon White, who has 161 Premier League appearances under his belt.

The Englishman has so much to consider, but his lack of playing time right now needs little thought.
