Arsenal duo Ethan Nwaneri and Reiss Nelson look sharp in pre-season training as Mikel Arteta gets his squad working again.
Pre-season is now underway at Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta back out on the grass working with his squad.
This is a crucial stage of the campaign, as the team need build up a foundation of fitness that will carry them through the season. This is also the best chance that the manager will get, without important matches coming thick and fast, to work on tactics and introduce new ideas to his team.
Not all of Arteta’s players are now back at London Colney. A number of Arsenal stars will join pre-season late, having featured in international tournaments over the course of the summer and therefore having been handed an extended break.
This has opened the door for plenty of Hale End academy prospects to potentially feature heavily over the course of pre-season, and the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have already been spotted training with the first team group.
Of course, not all the players currently working at London Colney will still be on the club’s books by the time the transfer window closes. For instance, Reiss Nelson has been linked with a move to West Ham United, amongst other Premier League clubs.

Reiss Nelson and Ethan Nwaneri impress in Arsenal pre-season training session
Whilst there is uncertainty about Nelson’s future at the Emirates Stadium, he certainly looks relaxed and comfortable in training.
In recent behind the scenes footage posted to the club’s official YouTube channel, the 24-year-old winger was seen showing some flair, as he skipped past a number of players with the ball at his feet. This little run drew applause and appreciation from his teammates and Arteta himself.
Meanwhile, Nwaneri also looked sharp, and not at all out of place amongst his more experienced and senior club mates. There is a huge amount of excitement around the 17-year-old, who holds the record as the youngest player to feature for the first team in the club’s history.
There is a plan for Nwaneri to progress at Arsenal, and fans will be eager to see him feature prominently over the course of pre-season and the upcoming tour of the USA.
