Forget Bukayo Saka, another star showed vs Wolves why he’s Arsenal’s best player right now

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka was absolutely incredible against Wolves.

The Gunners were awful for large parts of the game, and none of their starters, apart from their number seven, played at the required level.

Saka was outstanding from start to finish, and even though he wasn’t credited with assists for either goal, they wouldn’t have come without him.

The Hale End graduate deserves all the praise he has been getting since Saturday night, but if we’re talking about Arsenal’s best player based on current form, it’s not him, it’s Leandro Trossard.

The attacker was excellent against Wolves after he came on.

Leandro Trossard is Arsenal’s best player right now, not Bukayo Saka

Many fans urged Arsenal to sell Trossard in the summer.

Even though the Belgian has come up with some important goals over the years, several supporters felt that he wasn’t good enough.

However, Arteta decided that Trossard was going nowhere, and that has proved to be a tremendous decision.

The former Brighton man has directly contributed to 11 goals in 11 starts so far this season. He has been a constant threat in almost every fixture and made a difference against Wolves as well.

After coming on in the 57th minute, Trossard had 20 touches of the ball, created three chances for his teammates and misplaced just one of his 14 attempted passes, thus maintaining a 93 per cent passing accuracy (Sofascore).

If you compare that to Eberechi Eze, he had just 15 more touches despite playing 27 minutes more. His passing accuracy was inferior, and he failed to create a single chance.

Trossard should be a guaranteed starter every week, and based on current form, he is undoubtedly Arsenal’s best player right now.

Mikel Arteta has a clear Leandro Trossard decision to make at Arsenal

When the 2025/26 season started, not many Arsenal fans would’ve expected Trossard to be as good as this.

11 direct goal contributions in as many starts is a tremendous return. Seven of those have come in eight starts in the Premier League.

Trossard’s main rival on the left wing, Gabriel Martinelli, has been tremendous in the Champions League, but in the English top flight, he has scored just once all campaign.

For that reason, Arteta should make Trossard his first-choice left winger in the Premier League going forward. Martinelli should keep his place in Europe.

That would ensure that the two players are fresh to play and would also give Arsenal the best chance of success in both competitions.
