Arsenal are suddenly in need of defensive reinforcements.
The Gunners have had the best defence in the Premier League for a few years now, and on paper, they are still better than anyone else.
However, William Saliba has a broken back and is facing a spell on the sidelines. The Frenchman may even need surgery.
Ezri Konsa has been linked with a move to Arsenal, but the Gunners are also monitoring another central defender: Jon Martin.
Arsenal fans, what’s your message to Mikel Arteta and Didier Deschamps for making William Saliba play with a broken back?
Jon Martin could be another Cristhian Mosquera-like signing for Arsenal
Arsenal signed Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia in the summer of 2025.
Nobody here in England had really heard of the young Spanish defender back then, but Andrea Berta was really keen to sign him.
Arsenal landed Mosquera for an initial fee of just £13 million, and apart from his error in the Champions League final, he had a fine debut campaign.
Now, following William Saliba’s injury, The Sun have claimed that Arsenal have Real Sociedad’s Martin on their radar.

The 20-year-old has already played 50 times for La Real and is viewed as one of the best defensive prospects in La Liga at the moment.
Not much is known about Martin here apart from the fact that he is a talented young defender. That was exactly the case with Mosquera as well.
To add to that, both players are Spanish centre-halves who are good on the ball, calm in possession and have huge potential.
If Arsenal sign him, we think Martin could end up being just like Mosquera.
Who should replace William Saliba at Arsenal if his injury rules him out for months?
Arsenal could have an advantage in their pursuit of Jon Martin
Martin could prove to be an easier player to sign than Konsa this summer.
The Gunners have a great relationship with Real Sociedad following the deal they completed to sign Martin Zubimendi last year.
Furthermore, Martin shares the same agent as the Arsenal number 36, which should make potential negotiations much easier.
However, whether the young centre-half is good enough to fill in for Saliba during his spell on the sidelines is anyone’s guess.
For that reason, Mikel Arteta could well end up prioritising a move for Konsa because of his experience.
