Forget Joshua Kimmich, three Arsenal signings that Mikel Arteta can target now with their contracts expiring in the summer

Arsenal know that they need to strengthen their squad for next season if they are to finally claim a major honour.

Arsenal’s injury crisis this season, as well as the stunning form of Mohamed Salah and Liverpool, has left the Gunners trailing by 13 points in the Premier League.

Champions League hopes hinge on a tough test against PSV where Arsenal players need to find ‘solutions’ to their recent attacking woes.

Ahead of the summer window, Arsenal have opened ‘concrete talks’ with Joshua Kimmich about joining on a free transfer. Kimmich would be an excellent addition but isn’t the only player Arsenal could target now that would bring extra quality to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Three signings Mikel Arteta can target now with their contracts expiring

Thomas Partey and Jorginho are set to leave the Emirates Stadium due to their own contracts expiring at the club at the end of the season.

Kieran Tierney has agreed to join Celtic, whilst the departures of the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior are also looking likely.

It means that Arsenal will need to bolster their squad as well as adding quality to their starting eleven. The Liverpool trio of Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are available on free transfers but their signatures would be very unrealistic.

However, there are other options out there for the Gunners and with contracts expiring in the summer, Arsenal can agree deals now and strengthen their squad whilst allowing for transfer fees to be spent on their targets. Here are three signings that Arteta could consider.

Tyrick Mitchell

Tyrick Mitchell has played 27 games in the Premier league so far for Crystal Palace and has performed admirably in the left back spot.

His performances have earned him calls to be called up for his national side England and at 25 years of age, the defender still has his most promising years ahead of him.

Whilst the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly has been a bonus in the left back spot for Arsenal this season, a player like Mitchell with experience of the league and someone with real attacking energy could be a useful bargain for the Gunners.

Angel Gomes

Angel Gomes is a former Manchester United academy prospect and has made four appearances recently for England under Gareth Southgate.

Calm and composed on the ball, Gomes has a real eye for a pass between the lines and could be a good option with the impending departures of Partey and Jorginho.

Gomes has Champions League experience with Lille and is a very similar type of player to Jorginho in that he is comfortable with the ball under pressure.

Leroy Sane

Arsenal have held interest in Leroy Sane for a while and Arteta knows the player well from their time at Manchester City.

Injuries and fitness have been an issue for the German however, there is no doubting his quality, possessing electric pace and an ability to produce something out of nothing.

A signing like Sane would certainly add depth to Arsenal’s attacking options, whilst still allowing them to go after their main targets such as Nico Williams and Alexander Isak.

This could be the pre-contract agreement that the Gunners really chase hard and it would make perfect sense from both a footballing and financial sense.
