Arsenal did nothing in the January transfer window, but one of their players made a decision on his future.

The Gunners were in desperate need of reinforcements. A new striker would’ve helped them massively, but Mikel Arteta’s side could not bring anyone in.

Arsenal’s thin squad meant that none of their senior players were allowed to leave either, which means the summer transfer window is when all the movement will happen.

One club have now made it official that they will be signing an Arsenal player this summer.

Celtic confirm agreement with Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney

Kieran Tierney has been heavily linked with a return to Celtic for a few months now.

The Scotland international is a fan favourite at the Emirates and he is equally adored at Celtic Park too. He is a player every club would love to have.

Injuries have ruined Tierney’s career at Arsenal, and the Gunners have passed on the option to extend his deal by another year.

That allows Tierney to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.

On Monday, Celtic released their interim financial report, and it was confirmed there that the Arsenal left-back has put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement.

“During the January 2025 transfer window, we acquired the permanent registration of Jota and the temporary registration of Jeffrey Schlupp,” the report stated, as per Sky Sports.

“In addition, we extended the contract of Kasper Schmeichel and entered into a pre-contract agreement that will see Kieran Tierney return to Celtic in July 2025.”

Why Kieran Tierney did not leave Arsenal for Celtic in January?

Celtic were very interested in re-signing Tierney in the January transfer window.

Arsenal are very well stocked at left-back with Myles Lewis-Skelly, Riccardo Calafiori, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior all at the club. Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu could also play there.

That reduced the need for the Scotsman, but the Gunners still did not let him go for one reason.

Arsenal Insider exclusively revealed that Arsenal wanted a fee for Tierney in January, while Celtic wanted to sign him for free in the winter window.

The two sides could not reach a compromise, so Tierney has ended up staying and will return to Celtic in July, once his Arsenal contract expires.

Before that happens, there is a small chance that Arsenal could face Celtic in the Champions League this season. For that to happen, however, the Scots will have to knock Bayern Munich out in the playoffs.
