Forget Rodrygo, Arsenal should sacrifice winger transfer and sign ‘unbelievable’ star who can transform Mikel Arteta’s team

Andrea Berta has some tough transfer decisions to make at Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners have several areas of their squad that need strengthening, including the forward line and the midfield.

Berta arrived at Arsenal in March and has been plotting summer transfer plans behind the scenes in the last month or so, with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi being lined up as potential acquisitions.

The expectation is that the North London club will add a striker and a wide forward to Mikel Arteta’s ranks this summer, with the likes of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli seen as upgradeable.

Arsenal should go all out to sign Alexander Isak this summer

Gyokeres is seen as the most likely striker signing for Arsenal, and the Swedish striker is understood to be available for somewhere in the region of £50-£70 million.

Meanwhile, the likes of Nico Williams, Rodrygo and Ademola Lookman are being linked with a switch to N5, with options of this calibre expected to demand a similar fee to Gyokeres.

Rodrygo is perhaps the most attractive wide forward option potentially on the market, but Arsenal should instead opt for a different strategy.

Rather than spending somewhere between £100-£140 million on two attacking players who both aren’t quite in that elite bracket, Arsenal should allocate the entirety of these resources to the only sure thing on the market, Alexander Isak.

Isak is reportedly Arteta’s dream signing, and it’s not hard to see why.

The likes of Gyokeres, Williams and even Rodrygo all come with question marks, while the Newcastle star would almost be guaranteed to be an overwhelming success at the Emirates.

Netting 52 goals across all competitions since the start of last season, Isak has proven himself as a prolific goalscorer in the Premier League, whilst his all-round game makes him a perfect fit for Arteta’s system.

A striker of Isak’s calibre has the potential to completely transform Arsenal’s entire attack and elevate the Gunners from title contenders to winners.

Even if it requires settling with Martinelli and Leandro Trossard on the left for another season, and spending in excess of £120 million on one player, no combination of striker and winger targets Arsenal are considering has the transformational potential that Isak alone possesses.

Isak has been described as ‘unbelievable’, and his statistics reflect this.

While Arsenal would have to rely on the likes of Martinelli and Trossard for another season, Isak would also be able to play off the left from time to time and dovetail nicely with Havertz.

Of course, whether Newcastle would actually be willing to sell to Arsenal in any capacity if they qualify for the Champions League remains to be seen, but it’s worth pursuing for the Gunners.

As shown by the data above, Isak’s output is elite, contributing to 29 Premier League goals in just 33 appearances.

Amassing over 0.6 expected goals and taking over three shots per 90 minutes, these underlying numbers suggest this form is sustainable.

If there’s a way for Arsenal to pull this deal off, they’ve got to at least contemplate it.
