Forget William Saliba, another Arsenal star’s contract is more important in disaster scenario for Mikel Arteta

Arsenal have a huge summer ahead of them in terms of recruitment and retainment at the club.

Mikel Arteta is continuing to build a squad that is capable of competing for the major honours and despite Arsenal’s injury crisis this season, the club still have a chance at glory in the Premier League and Champions League.

Arsenal have revealed a major income boost following the release of their latest financial figures and it seems the club are in a great position to really strengthen their position in the summer.

William Saliba and Bukayo Saka have contracts expiring in 2027 and Arsenal will want to avoid a Mohamed Salah scenario with the duo and get them to commit to the football club.

Bukayo Saka’s contract is more important to Arsenal than William Saliba

Whilst Arsenal cannot afford to lose either Saka or Saliba, the lack of contract urgency will start to worry supporters, especially with news of Real Madrid’s interest in Saliba.

Should it come down to the club choosing between either of their stars, Saka has to kept at the Emirates Stadium at all costs.

Arteta’s side have the capabilities to deal with the loss of Saliba, Jurrien Timber and Ben White are both high quality replacements and great defenders in their own right.

However, recent troubles have shown that Arsenal cannot cope with the loss of their Hale End star Saka. He is still leading the chances created in the league even with being absent for two months.

If Stan Kroenke has any ambition for the club however, both contract situations will be sorted this summer along with the acquisition of a world-class striker and winger.

Arsenal fans were furious with the Kroenkes after a lack of transfer activity in January has left the club with limited options in attacking areas going into the most crucial phase of the season.

This summer is arguably the biggest in Kroenke’s ownership of the club with a number of issues needed to be resolved.

A new sporting director needs to be appointed permanently, contracts of key players need to be tied down and targets such as Benjamin Sesko and Nico Williams need to be acquired in the transfer market.

Complete those and all might be forgiven amongst the Arsenal faithful, failure in any of those areas and things could start to turn hostile for the American owner.
