After some frustrating form over the past six months or so, Gabriel Martinelli has begun to regain his confidence and sharpness at Arsenal.
Martinelli’s defensive efforts have never waned, however, the Brazilian had lost some of his attacking flair at Arsenal, a certain raw fearlessness to his game had diminished.
Fortunately, Martinelli has looked more like his old self in recent weeks, explaining why an injury he picked up over the international break is incredibly untimely.
Martinelli injured his calf in Brazil training, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be fit to face Bournemouth this weekend.
Of course, if he isn’t fit, then that could present an opportunity for his club and country teammate Gabriel Jesus.
Gabriel Martinelli was wrong about Brazil teammate Gabriel Jesus
Although Martinelli is recovering from some disappointing form, Jesus is still struggling to show his best levels in north London.
Fans criticised Jesus after his Southampton display, a rare opportunity from the start handed to the Brazilian by Mikel Arteta.

As has often been the case for Jesus, it almost felt as if the striker was trying too hard, snatching at all of the opportunities that came his way.
And in truth, that’s understandable.
Jesus worked incredibly hard to return in top condition for pre-season, and is so keen to prove that he’s still good enough to start in this Arsenal team.
But his desperation to impress almost seems as if it’s working against him right now.
That being said, Martinelli actually claimed that Jesus was one of the best strikers in the world last November, comments that are hard to agree with today.
In an interview with Globo, Martinelli said: “He is a guy that I consider highly, he is a brother to me, we created a great friendship.
“He is one of the best centre forwards in the world.
“I hope he also works very well here in the Seleção, as he is doing at Arsenal, so that we can bring joy to the Brazilian fans.”
Arsenal fans still need to stick by Gabriel Jesus
Although many won’t agree with Martinelli’s interpretation of Jesus’ standing in world football, Arsenal fans still need to stick by Jesus, until the end of the season at least.
Ian Wright called for fans to be patient with Jesus recently too, a player who is clearly trying so hard as mentioned.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Jesus was replaced by someone like Benjamin Sesko in the summer, a striker better suited to dovetailing with Kai Havertz.
But until then, Jesus will be an important cog for Arsenal, especially if injuries continue.
And it’s still very possible that the Brazilian could depart the Emirates Stadium with another Premier League winners medal around his neck.
