Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has become one of the best players in the world.

The Englishman is one of the first names on the team sheet for both club and country, and his performances over the last few years have been nothing short of incredible.

The great thing about Saka is that he is getting better and better every season. He working hard at the training ground to add more traits to his game and is slowly but surely mastering it.

However, Saka wasn’t a big fan of doing one thing at the start of this year.

Bukayo Saka actually hated training for set-pieces at Arsenal

Arsenal are the kings of set-pieces right now.

The Gunners have scored more goals from set-pieces than any other team in Europe. Nicolas Jover has completely transformed the club over the last few years.

The likes of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes’ brilliance in the air often gets all the plaudits, but what many people ignore is the delivery.

Declan Rice and Saka are both so incredibly consistent with their corners and free-kicks. They practice a lot at the training ground and have now mastered it.

Arsenal players are loving the success from set-pieces, but one of them wasn’t a big fan of it in January 2024 – Saka.

The Englishman claimed in an interview that training for set-pieces is actually the ‘worst’.

Saka said in January, as per the Metro: “We do a lot of work on set-pieces. It’s the worst. Our set-piece coach tries to make it fun. We’re doing well and what he’s doing is working.

“We went out of the FA Cup (against Liverpool) mostly on a set-piece so we wanted to put it right today (against Crystal Palace) and get a clean sheet. We scored two so we’re happy.”

Busting a myth about Arsenal star Bukayo Saka

Saka has created the most big chances in the Premier League this season – 18. He is ahead of everyone else in the division – seven clear of the next best.

18 big chances created in 14 games is an incredible record, but several rival fans have been trying to discredit Saka’s brilliance by claiming that he wouldn’t be anywhere near the top if it wasn’t for set-pieces.

Sadly for them, they couldn’t be more wrong – that assessment is just a myth.

Saka leads the way in most big chances created from open play too – 10. He is the best creator in the Premier League right now, set-pieces or otherwise.

People need to start giving Saka more credit. Players who are nowhere near his level get more praise than he does, which is just really unfair. We hope that changes in the coming months.
