Jack Wilshere has been appointed as the new manager of Luton Town, and he should immediately look to sign an Arsenal star in January.

After leaving his post as the Gunners’ under-18s manager in October 2024, the former midfielder had a brief spell as an assistant coach and then as interim head coach at Norwich City.

This was enough for Luton to appoint Wilshere as their manager, and he’ll commence his role at Kenilworth Road with immediate effect.

The Hatters currently sit 11th in League One, just 18 months after being relegated from the Premier League, and thus, the Hale End graduate has a tough first job in management on his hands.

Jack Wilshere should sign Charles Sagoe Jr. in January

Arsenal have several promising youngsters who could help Luton and Wilshere achieve their goals.

One of these is Charles Sagoe Jr, who spent the duration of last season on loan at League One side Shrewsbury Town.

Sagoe Jr. made his senior debut for the Gunners in a League Cup third-round match against Brentford in September 2023, but has since not been involved for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal youth expert Jeorge Bird believes the 21-year-old winger needs a loan move to continue his development, and Luton could be the perfect place for him to spend the second half of the 2025/26 season.

Sagoe Jr. has scored twice and registered three assists in Premier League 2 so far this season, clearly demonstrating that he’s too good to be playing at this level.

The wide man will know Wilshere well from their time spent together at Hale End, and thus, the 33-year-old will likely have no issue attracting the player to the Bedfordshire club.

Arsenal will be keen on finding the starlet a temporary home in January to increase the possibility of attaining a fee for him in the summer.

Sagoe Jr. has been described as ‘unpredictable’ in the past, and this is the sort of flair and firepower that could hugely benefit a side like Luton looking for some offensive inspiration.

Arsenal should now use Luton to develop youngsters in senior football

Wilshere has an excellent relationship with Arsenal and has a great understanding of the current set-up at Hale End.

Thus, there is an opportunity for Academy Manager Per Mertesacker to leverage this connection to provide up and coming players with loans at Luton.

The Gunners haven’t been effective at finding loans that have enhanced the value of their youngsters in the past.

They have a chance to rectify this by sending players who need senior football to develop to a trusted coach like Wilshere.

This has the potential to be an incredibly fruitful partnership for both Arsenal and Wilshere.
