Arsenal star Jurrien Timber has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season.
The Gunners are on top of the table after picking up 16 points from their first seven games. They have been excellent despite their tough fixture list.
A number of Mikel Arteta’s men have performed brilliantly so far this term, but Timber, in our opinion, has been Arsenal’s best player.
Now, the defender could achieve something that hasn’t happened since the turn of this century.
Jurrien Timber could win the Arsenal Player of the Season award
Arsenal signed Jurrien Timber from Ajax in the summer of 2023.
The Netherlands international had a difficult first season due to an ACL injury, but since the start of his second campaign, he has been incredible.
Timber is one of the most solid full-backs in world football right now, and he is not too bad going forward either.
As we told you earlier, Timber has created eight chances from open play this season – more than any other Arsenal player.
The £34 million Arsenal paid to sign Timber looks like an absolute bargain now, and if he carries on playing the same way, he will be among the favourites to win the club’s Player of the Season award.
Should that happen, the 24-year-old will become the first defender to win that accolade since Nigel Winterburn all the way back in 1999.
Arsenal Insider felt that Timber was unlucky not to win the Player of the Season award after the last campaign. He would be a worthy recipient if he got it this time.

Only nine defenders have won the Arsenal Player of the Season award
Arsenal introduced the Player of the Season award in the 1966/67 season, and whoever gets it at the end of this campaign will be the 59th winner.
In the last 58 seasons, players across the pitch have been handed the award, but only nine defenders have managed to get their name on the trophy.
| Defender to have won Arsenal’s player of the season award | Season |
| Frank McLintock | 1966/67 |
| Peter Simpson | 1968/69 |
| Pat Rice | 1971/72 |
| Kenny Sansom | 1980/81 |
| John Hollins | 1981/82 |
| Tony Adams (3) | 1986/87, 1989/90 and 1993/94 |
| Steve Bould | 1990/91 |
| Martin Keown | 1995/96 |
| Nigel Winterburn | 1998/99 |
Tony Adams is the only Arsenal defender in history to have won the club’s Player of the Season award multiple times.
Eight others have managed to win it once, and we think Timber has the chance to become the first defender to get the award in this century.
