After a frustrating 2024/25 in the transfer window, Arsenal could be set for more misery in the summer.

Mikel Arteta wanted a striker signed in January however, a forward was not delivered despite concerns over Arsenal’s squad depth.

Now, all eyes are on the summer, with the Arsenal board sent a warning by an influx of key injuries, leaving Arteta with limited options going forward.

While Arsenal have an eight-man target list of attackers, some figures are already considered to be out of reach and one could be on his way to the Premier League.

Man City have transfer plan for Arsenal target Florian Wirtz

Arsenal’s January transfer window was frustrating, resulting in fans taking aim at the Kroenkes for leaving Arteta’s squad short amid a title race.

Emphasis is automatically on the summer transfer window, where Stan Kroenke could spend big but, it remains to be seen what targets the Gunners can acquire.

Several transfer targets have already been sounded out, with Florian Wirtz being of interest to Arsenal according to past reports in Germany.

Signing the Bayer Leverkusen whiz would be a remarkable feat for the North Londoners but, Arteta’s side aren’t the only ones eyeing the versatile attacker.

A report from the Daily Mail shared Manchester City’s plan to sign Wirtz as a successor to Kevin De Bruyne, with the Germany international sporting a price tag ‘north of £85m’.

The 21-year-old, who already has 27 goal contributions in all competitions this season, will be in demand in the summer, with City eager to take the lead before the window opens.

Man City recently beat Arsenal to the signing of Omar Marmoush, who has already made an impact in the Premier League, putting pressure on the Gunners to not miss out on another top talent.

Ethan Nwaneri is outperforming Wirtz

While Wirtz is one of the best in Europe, he’s not actually topping one chart in the continent, which is being inhabited by one of Arsenal’s own.

Ethan Nwaneri is currently the top performing player from U21 ranks in Europe’s top five leagues when it comes to his goal contribution frequency.

Averaging 0.97 goals or assists per 90 this campaign, the Hale End graduate is outperforming a remarkable list of talent, including Wirtz, whose quality was dubbed ‘ridiculous’ by Owen Hargreaves, via TNT Sports

With Nwaneri, Arteta must ensure a clear path to further progression is available to the player, who despite being 17-years-old, is showing the world what he can do when given the chance.

Signing a player of a similar positional profile in Wirtz could impact Nwaneri’s progression, making the German an attractive, yet questionable asset for the Gunners to consider.
