Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta cannot afford to copy Manchester United mistake in crucial Arsenal transfer window

Arsenal know the importance of acquiring their main transfer targets this summer.

Mikel Arteta was left short last summer and a last minute scramble from Edu Gaspar to bring in Raheem Sterling on deadline day backfired as the winger struggled from start to finish at the Emirates Stadium.

Andrea Berta has been brought in to rectify those past failings and bolster Arsenal’s squad so that they can challenge on all four fronts next campaign.

However, in light of Premier League rivals Manchester United’s recent troubles, Arteta and Berta need to make sure they do not fall into the same trap that is now costing the Old Trafford club dearly.

Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta’s Arsenal targets must align

Manchester United are now suffering given that past sporting directors and managers have wanted different types of players.

Now, United have a number of their first-team playing staff that simply do not fit into Ruben Amorim’s system as their communication on recruitment has not aligned.

Arteta’s reported preference for the club’s new centre forward is Benjamin Sesko, whilst Berta is a big fan of Viktor Gyokeres.

However, the first hurdle seems to have been overcome by the duo as Berta is in talks with Sesko over a move from Leipzig.

There needs to be communication from the manager and sporting director this transfer window and a clear vision of what the squad needs to look like come the end of it.

Other positions to strengthen for Arsenal this summer

Thierry Henry admires Julian Alvarez and Berta signed the Argentinian star for Atletico Madrid back in the summer of 2024.

Arteta knows the player well from his time under Pep Guardiola with Manchester City but whether Alvarez is the main priority for the Gunners remains to be seen.

A winger is what Arteta has been crying out for and Arsenal’s interest in Rodrygo shows there is ambition in bringing in a player that can stretch defences and produce magical moments.

Arteta’s dream winger is Nico Williams but the Spaniard’s wages may be a stumbling block. This transfer window will be enthralling for Arsenal supporters but the hierarchy need to ensure they are all singing from the same hymn sheet.
