The legendary Englishman was absolutely incredible for the Gunners up top and is the club’s second-highest goalscorer of all time.
Wright’s movement, the timing of his runs and the way he lost the defender were top-class. His punditry is pretty good too, especially when he’s talking about centre-forwards.
The Arsenal great hailed one under-appreciated Premier League striker over a year ago, and Mikel Arteta must have heard his comments, as he is now suddenly thinking about signing him.
What Ian Wright once said about new Arsenal target Nicolas Jackson
Arsenal have been linked with a shock move to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea this summer.
The Gunners are on the market for a new striker, and fans have been hoping for a big-name addition before pre-season starts in July.
Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have both been linked with Arsenal, and either of them would be fantastic.
However, the interest in Jackson is really confusing, as he hasn’t been great at all for Chelsea in his two years at Stamford Bridge.
We’re sure Arsenal fans will not be impressed with any move for Jackson, but what Ian Wright said about the Senegal striker in April last year may change their mind.
He said on the Wrighty’s House podcast at the time: “I watched him fully again [during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa] and I have watched him in the last three or four games and the chances that he has missed always take precedence when people are talking about him, but I am seeing that guy’s pace, his link, his touch. Something is happening there.
“If he gets that goalscoring right, there is something in there, I’m telling you. He did some brilliant stuff against Villa. I hope it can happen for him. I have seen flashes, and if he has the energy and the personality for it, this guy has got something. I am telling you.”
Arsenal should sign Nicolas Jackson, but only on one condition
Almost every Arsenal fan on the planet will respond with a big ‘no’ if you offered Jackson to them this summer.
We are definitely of the same opinion too, but Arteta has made some strange signings in the past, and most of them have worked out.
If the Arsenal manager wants to sign Jackson in this window, we will be behind him, but on one condition — he cannot be the only striker they bring in.
Signing Jackson on top of Gyokeres or Sesko would not be a terrible idea, but if Arteta wants to make him his first-choice number nine, Andrea Berta should pull him to the side and have a word with him.
The priority now has to be one of Sesko or Gyokeres, unless Alexander Isak suddenly becomes available.
