Mikel Arteta’s search for an attacker to bolster his Arsenal squad might have taken a turn.

Arteta wants new signings this winter and surprisingly, hasn’t been shy to express his desires to the Arsenal board.

When discussing the Premier League title race, the ongoing narrative is Arsenal’s lack of depth going forward, an area that title rivals Liverpool are particularly strong in.

It’s clear why Arteta hopes to see a new forward arrive at the Emirates before the end of the January transfer window but, the possibility of such remains a doubt.

Loan option for Arsenal as Mathys Tel considers his future

Arsenal have been linked to many forwards this window but, the stumbling block has always been price and availability mid-season.

As a result, it appears that the best option for Arteta right now is to enter the loan market although, this rules a Premier League forward out.

Having recruited Neto and Raheem Sterling on deadline day in the summer, Arsenal have used their Premier League loan spots on the duo, meaning the remaining option is an international loan.

A player of great quality being available on loan in January is a rarity however, Arsenal could be prompted to try their luck for one unsatisfied superstar.

In Germany, Bayern Munich starlet Mathys Tel is generating attention as he continues to battle for game time in Bavaria.

A report from TZ, posted by journalist Philipp Kessler, outlined that while Tel is firmly in Vincent Kompany’s plans for the future, that doesn’t help his situation right now, which Chelsea have been alerted to.

“The Bayern bosses’ words of praise have so far been followed by little action. Mathys Tel hardly plays a role for coach Vincent Kompany. There are people interested in the Frenchman. But a move to Chelsea is not an option for him at the moment.”

Chelsea reportedly want to sign the 19-year-old, who despite lacking minutes, is determined to make it at Bayern, making for the perfect conditions for a possible loan.

TZ’s update on the situation claims that Tel doesn’t want to go to Chelsea given the competition for spaces he’s already involved in, leaving him to fight for his place at Bayern or, look elsewhere.

For Arsenal, exploring a loan spell for the teenager could be incredibly smart, as Tel is a seasoned goalscorer who simply needs less competition for the chance to consistently show his worth.

Mathys Tel is learning from Harry Kane in Germany

While the forward will relish having the experience of learning from some of the superstars at Bayern right now, there will naturally be some frustration having to wait for his chance.

With the likes of Harry Kane and co ahead of him in the pecking order, the 19-year-old is fighting a losing battle, despite proving that he’s up to scratch.

Last season, Tel contributed to 16 goals in all competitions for Bayern, putting the skills he’s learned from Kane to use, as he admitted in an interview with the official Bundesliga website

“He helps me a lot on the pitch and off the pitch. He will often give me advice on what I could do differently,” Tel said of Kane.

“He will tell me: ‘That could have gone better had you done that’. He pays close attention to the little details and he’s looking to help me in any way he can. He’s supporting me a great deal.”

A strong finisher looking for the chance to make a breakthrough at senior level, Arsenal could find their missing piece to the puzzle in Tel, who could be a low-risk loan transfer this month.
