Arsenal are not actively working on any first-team signings in the January transfer window, but one emerging transfer elsewhere might pique Mikel Arteta’s interest.
Andrea Berta doesn’t like to sign players in January, or so his history at Atletico Madrid suggests.
Arsenal’s sporting director ensured that a strong summer in the market was put together, reducing the need to spend big in the winter.
While the Gunners’ approach in the window has been stagnant thus far, away from N5, there’s been plenty of movement and some of which will interest Arsenal.
What do Arsenal need to do in the January transfer window?
Fabrizio Romano confirms Matteo Guendouzi’s pending transfer to Fenerbahce after Premier League links
It’s not only Manchester City’s January transfer plans that will alert Arteta, but also deals happening away from the Premier League.
Earlier this week, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport reported that former Gunner Matteo Guendouzi had the potential of sealing a Premier League return.
Atletico Madrid enquired, as did clubs from Turkey and France, with interest from the Premier League anticipated.
Prove me wrong, Matteo Guendouzi would’ve thrived at Arsenal if Mikel Arteta hadn’t arrived.
The idea of the Frenchman returning to the English top flight might’ve alarmed Arteta, who isn’t the biggest fan of Guendouzi, but the Arsenal manager need not worry.
Fabrizio Romano issued a ‘here we go’ on Wednesday morning, confirming that an agreement had been struck between Guendouzi and Fenerbahce.
Three and a half years after leaving Arsenal permanently, the midfielder is preparing for the next chapter of his career in Turkey.
Mikel Arteta was not a fan of Guendouzi
Sure, Guendouzi’s return to the Premier League wouldn’t have directly impacted Arteta, but considering what the boss knows about the 26-year-old, he wouldn’t want him as an opponent.
Guendouzi had a bad attitude at Arsenal, which ultimately led to the end of his time at the club.

Speaking to Goal in 2022, Guendouzi admitted that he ‘didn’t have the best relationship’ with Arteta.
The boss pulled the plug on Guendouzi’s time in the Arsenal squad after he acted improperly towards Neal Maupay, attempting to grab the then-Brighton striker’s throat.
Simply put, the Frenchman wasn’t the sort of player who was ever going to make it under Arteta.
Arteta put Guendouzi behind him after the fallout, so he might be relatively relieved that the midfielder isn’t on his way back to the Premier League.
