Liverpool are showing the Premier League how it’s done this season with Mohamed Salah leading the way.
If Arsenal thought that getting Manchester City out of the way was their only concern for 2024/25, then they were wrong.
Mikel Arteta fell short to Pep Guardiola for two consecutive seasons and now, the Spaniard is set to end the campaign in Arne Slot’s shadow.
Five years into Arteta’s project, the demand for silverware is rising, particularly as in his first season in the Premier League, Slot looks set to win at least one major title.

Mohamed Salah is mocking Arsenal’s attacking talent
Arsenal finished seven points ahead of Liverpool in 2023/24, so what has changed since Jurgen Klopp’s exit?
With regard to the title race, the difference is clearly not what has changed, but what hasn’t at the Emirates.
The Gunners made just one attacking signing in the summer, which has significantly dented any dreams of winning the title, with Liverpool showing Arsenal up in that department.
Matchday 26 was eye-opening for Arteta, who watched his side lose spinelessly to West Ham, which all but ended Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League title.
As the North Londoners fell short, Liverpool flexed their power as the league leaders by beating Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad, where Mohamed Salah earned the headlines once more.
The Egyptian contributed to both goals, scoring himself and recording an assist to hand Arsenal a punishing blow for more than one reason.
| Player | Goals | Assists |
| Leandro Trossard | 4 | 5 |
| Gabriel Martinelli | 6 | 3 |
| Raheem Sterling | 0 | 1 |
| Martin Odegaard | 2 | 3 |
| Gabriel Jesus | 3 | 0 |
| Kai Havertz | 9 | 3 |
| Total | 24 | 15 |
| Mohamed Salah | 25 | 16 |
With his two goal contributions against City, Salah increased his goal contribution tally to 41 in the Premier League this season, which is humiliating for Arsenal.
That’s because, Salah surpassed six of Arsenal’s forwards’ tally combined, with Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz combining for 39 contributions.
The revelation is as staggering as it is embarrassing for Arsenal, who despite being miles behind Man City and Liverpool on the centre-forward front, failed to recruit in preparation for the title race.
Mikel Arteta’s transfer priorities are all wrong
Before the season, Alan Shearer backed Arsenal to win the league but only if a top striker was added to Arteta’s squad.
It didn’t happen and as expected, the Gunners are almost certainly ruled out of the title race with three months of action remaining.
| Season | Player | Position |
| 2023/24 | Declan Rice | MF |
| 2023/24 | Kai Havertz | FW |
| 2023/24 | David Raya (loan) | GK |
| 2023/24 | Jurrien Timber | DF |
| 2024/25 | Riccardo Calafiori | DF |
| 2024/25 | David Raya | GK |
| 2024/25 | Mikel Merino | MF |
| 2024/25 | Raheem Sterling (loan) | FW |
| 2024/25 | Neto (loan) | GK |
Arteta has been let down by the Arsenal board but, it must be said that the Spaniard’s transfer priorities have been questionable.
In the summer, Arsenal needed a striker or at least another attacker but instead, the boss welcomed two goalkeepers, a defensive midfielder, a defender and an out-of-form unwanted forward.
The results are what Salah is doing at Liverpool, being the Reds’ shining light on all occasions to power Slot to Premier League glory and humiliating Arsenal’s front line in the process.
