One Arteta decision v Wolves shows why £20m ace must leave Arsenal immediately, he has no future

Arsenal beat Wolves in their opening Premier League game in a positive start to the season, but there is still work to do in the transfer market.

Mikel Merino is expected to arrive at Arsenal in the coming days, and he will follow Riccardo Calafiori in as the second signing of the summer.

Arsenal have been patient in the transfer window so far, with Mikel Arteta outlining his desire to add true quality rather than recruiting unnecessarily, but sales still need to be made.

Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson were expected to leave this summer, but both were on the bench against Wolves as moves for both players have not yet materialised.

Both players were still included in the matchday squad, alongside Hale End sensation Ethan Nwaneri, but there was a notable absence in Jakub Kiwior.

Why Jakub Kiwior was absent in Arsenal win vs Wolves

Poland defender Kiwior was left out of the matchday squad, with Calafiori and Jurrien Timber on the bench as defenders, whilst Nwaneri, Jorginho and Leandro Trossard were midfield options.

It was revealed before the game that his absence was not injury-related, but a technical decision.

“Jakub Kiwior, out of Arsenal squad for technical decision. No injury. He could still leave before the end of the transfer window but nothing close yet with any club,” Fabrizio Romano posted on X.

Calafiori was an unused substitute, and he will have to wait for his debut, whilst Timber came on for Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back in an impressive cameo appearance.

Jakub Kiwior needs to leave Arsenal this summer

Kiwior joined Arsenal for around £20m in January 2023, and has had some impressive performances in his time at the club. However, after a run in the team at left-back, he failed to establish himself as a regular option in the position, and has now fallen further down the pecking order.

Calafiori’s arrival means that Kiwior’s profile, as a left-sided defender who can play in the centre or at full-back, has already been filled, and his prospects of game time look slim.

Kiwior has failed to make the matchday squad despite the absence of Takehiro Tomiyasu, whom he is also behind in the pecking order, and he will not play regularly unless he departs.

There is interest from several Serie A sides in Kiwior, and a sale now would be the ideal scenario for all parties.
