Phil Foden’s brace of assists against Crystal Palace means that he now has more Premier League goal involvements this season than Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze.
The 25-year-old played a key role in helping Man City close the gap on Arsenal back down to just two points ahead of the final two matches.
🤔 What GRADE would you give Eberechi Eze’s first season at Arsenal so far?
But regardless of what City now do, Arsenal have the chance to clinch their first Premier League title in 22 years with wins over Burnley and Crystal Palace.
For Eze, along with the Champions League final still to play, that would make this season simply incredible, but on a personal level, it’s now clear the season has been rather underwhelming.
Phil Foden proves vs Crystal Palace that Eberechi Eze has been a bad Arsenal signing
In arguably Phil Foden’s worst season to date, the Manchester City attacker has still managed more Premier League goal involvements than Eberechi Eze.
Both players have played 31 times in the top flight this season and netted seven times, but Foden has five more assists than the former Crystal Palace star.
Eze was signed for £68 million last summer and was supposed to be the player who really made the difference for the Gunners.
There is no doubting that in moments, like in both North London derby matches, the 27-year-old has made an impact, but his stats show the reality.
🤔 Who starts the Champions League final in the number 10: Eberechi Eze or Martin Odegaard?
Many will argue that Foden has had a rather disappointing season at City, so for him to still have more goal involvements than Eze just proves the Arsenal man has not been a great addition.
Given he has still been the difference maker in games against Spurs, Palace and Bayer Leverkusen, his signing cannot be dismissed as a poor one, but when compared to Foden, it’s clear he’s been slightly underwhelming.
Mikel Arteta must consider dropping Eberechi Eze for Martin Odegaard
Eze’s recent dip in form has come at just the wrong moment for him, as Arteta had been favouring him over Martin Odegaard.
However, at the weekend, the Arsenal captain came off the bench and got the assist for Leandro Trossard’s winning goal against West Ham United.
Odegaard was the difference maker for Arsenal during the 1-0 win, and Arteta should be thinking about keeping him in the number ten.
Ahead of the Champions League final, Arteta has many key decisions to make, but none more important than whether he picks Odegaard or Eze.
