Three Arsenal manager replacements if Mikel Arteta is sacked or makes resignation decision

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is facing some growing pressure over his situation at the club as this season threatens to end without silverware yet again.

The Gunners are struggling in the Premier League, with the title race firmly in Liverpool’s hands, while the Champions League will be a challenge without a recognised striker.

Following a January of no investment, there had been fears that Mikel Arteta could resign from Arsenal, while others have spoken about the possibility of a sacking to ignite the next title charge.

While the Arsenal boss himself seems up for a fight and there is no talk of a possible move to a new era, the post-Arteta days are worth thinking about.

Most successful clubs these days have a succession plan for when one thing ends and requires a new start again.

So, in the event that Mikel Arteta does walk at some point, here’s a look at three managers who could be on the radar at the Emirates Stadium.

Simone Inzaghi

Since joining Inter Milan, very few managers have impressed more than Simone Inzaghi, with plenty of accolades going his way.

The 48-year-old has won one Scudetto, three Italian Cups and five Italian Super Cups during his career so far.

He is on the brink of a possible treble with Inter this season, with a deep run in the Champions League a real possibility.

Inzaghi has shown he can be a real winner, but whether that would translate to Arsenal is another question altogether.

The Italian manager’s use of a 3-5-2 makes it awkward to fit with the current Arsenal squad, which could result in a few transfer windows to change it once again.

It’s the sort of squad building that is hard to reverse if it doesn’t go to plan and it would be a huge risk in total.

Cesc Fabregas

Another former Arsenal player who is currently trying out management is Cesc Fabregas, who is impressing in Italy with Como.

The ex-midfielder was the assistant manager as they won promotion to Serie A before taking over last summer.

In his first full season, Fabregas looks likely to guide his team to safety and give them a chance to establish themselves in the top flight.

Fabregas plays a 4-2-3-1, which works with the current squad balance and make-up of the squad, while he has plenty of knowledge about the club.

One thing he is lacking, though, is managerial experience and it may take some time for him to become the serial winner that the side needs.

Xabi Alonso

Another up-and-coming coach in world football is Xabi Alonso, who has made a name for himself after just a few years.

The 43-year-old took his first job at Bayer Leverkusen in 2022, turning them from a team of nearly men to winners.

Alonso guided the side to a Bundesliga title along with a German Cup and the final of the Europa League.

Much like Inzaghi, the main issue may come surrounding his system, which so far has been a 3-4-2-1, which may be tough to fit the current squad into.
