Three big-name transfers Arsenal have already lost to Premier League rivals, including one perfect fit

With the summer transfer window in full swing, many Premier League sides have been making big statement signings coming into the season.

So far, Arsenal have only made one official signing in this transfer window, and that is goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea for around £5m.

Arsenal have been linked to some major transfers, such as Viktor Gyokeres and Rodrygo from Real Madrid.

It is key that Mikel Arteta boosts his squad, as so far, he has been unsuccessful in winning the Premier League with Arsenal. That said, he’s already missed out on some huge names to league rivals.

Florian Wirtz

Florian Wirtz was one of the most sought-after players coming into the summer, with many teams looking to land the signing of the Bayer Leverkusen man.

The 22-year-old is coming off the back of another stellar season for Xabi Alonso’s former side, netting 16 goals and getting 15 assists in 44 matches.

Wirtz has signed for Liverpool, and that signing broke the all-time Premier League signing fee, as he cost Arne Slot’s side £116.5m.

While Arsenal never placed an official bid for Wirtz, they were heavily linked to him, and it is interesting what could have been if he had chosen to sign for the Gunners.

Joao Pedro

Chelsea have recently announced the signing of Joao Pedro from fellow Premier League side Brighton for a fee of £50m.

It is common knowledge that Arsenal have been lacking a goal scorer in recent seasons, as players like Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus fail to stay consistent.

Although Arsenal made it clear that Pedro was not a priority for them.

The signing of Pedro to Chelsea feels like an opportunity wasted by Arteta’s Arsenal, as they could have signed a Premier League-proven player to help get them more goals.

Matheus Cunha

In June of 2025, it was announced that Matheus Cunha would be joining Manchester United for the 25/26 season, for a fee of £62.5m.

Cunha was the standout player for Wolverhampton last season, bagging 15 goals and securing 6 assists in 33 appearances for Wolves.

Arsenal were linked to Cunha, but he chose to join Manchester United instead, who came 15th in the Premier League last season.

Cunha could have been competition for Gabriel Martinelli, who struggled with consistency last season, and the signing of Cunha could have potentially motivated him to find his form.
