With the end of 2024 in sight, let’s recap on what has been a dramatic year for Arsenal in all competitions.
In May, Arsenal missed out on the Premier League by only two points, watching Manchester City lift the trophy once again.
A lot has changed at the Emirates following Mikel Arteta’s appointment, with the most prominent being the transition from European hopefuls to title challengers.
The 2024/25 season has started more challenging than hoped for the Gunners, who will look back on the year with some regrets as the wait for silverware continues.

Three of the best Arsenal matches in 2024
While Arsenal, like many clubs, will have regrets from 2024, the Gunners also gave supporters far and wide a lot to cheer about over the year.
From winning crucial fixtures to taking the Premier League title race to the wire, the North Londoners hold some fond memories from the last 12 months, here are three of the best.
Arsenal 3-1 Liverpool – February 2024
One of the most memorable fixtures came back in February, as Arsenal hosted Premier League leaders at the time, Liverpool.
The Reds visited the Emirates with the plan to extend their lead at the summit however, Arteta’s side ensured that wasn’t the case.
Arsenal reduced Liverpool’s gap at the top to only two points with a win in N5 that day, with goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard settling the scoreline.
Arteta watched Arsenal make history against Liverpool during the win, recording the highest average of expected goals (xG) Liverpool had ever experienced in the Premier League.
The three points stood for a lot on the day, in what was one of many memorable moments against the top six in 2024.
Tottenham 0-1 Arsenal – September 2024
Fast forward to September and another of Arsenal’s best results of 2024 comes, as the Gunners beat bitter rivals Tottenham 1-0 away from home.
The win was another chance for the North Londoners to extend their strength on the road, as Arsenal won six consecutive Premier League away games for the first time in 11 years.
A win over Spurs is always sweet for Arsenal, and the occasion was even more special as the visitors went into the game with some caution, with several key players missing.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was Arsenal’s for the day for the third season in a row however, the game undoubtedly belonged to Gabriel Magalhaes, the scorer of the North London Derby match-winner.

Sporting CP 1-5 Arsenal – November 2024
The third-best Arsenal game of 2024 doesn’t require much reflection, as it took place only last month.
In November, the Gunners marched to Lisbon to attempt to beat Sporting CP, who were unbeaten at home for 30 matches before Arteta’s visit.
Arsenal did more than beat Sporting, as the visitors blew Ruben Amorim’s former club away, winning 5-1 on the road in the Champions League.
From the kick-off, Arsenal surprised Sporting with their domination, scoring three before half-time and adding another two in the second half.
Gabriel scored and memorably mimicked Viktor Gyokeres’ celebration, letting the Swedish goalscorer know who’s boss in the final third.
