Viktor Gyokeres might have been watching Arsenal’s pre-season win over AC Milan from afar.

Though the Swede didn’t play, the inbound striker was still a topic of conversation in Singapore.

Fans at the Singapore National Stadium showed their appreciation for Gyokeres at half-time, doing the 27-year-old’s iconic celebration as the camera panned through the crowd.

After Andrea Berta made a breakthrough in negotiations, all fans have been able to think about is the striker, who scored 54 goals for Sporting CP last season.

Viktor Gyokeres would’ve loved Kai Havertz’s performance vs AC Milan

Some Arsenal players will be worried by Gyokeres’ arrival, whereas some will be desperate to play with the talisman.

Myles Lewis-Skelly showed his excitement about Gyokeres’ transfer, reacting to the news on social media.

While the anticipation is building ahead of the Swede’s arrival, one player might be peering over his shoulder.

Kai Havertz will be impacted by Gyokeres’ arrival in some form, but against AC Milan, the German demonstrated that he might not have anything to worry about.

Havertz, who Arteta describes as ‘special’, played 79 minutes of Arsenal’s win over Milan, and his role might’ve alerted Gyokeres.

Though the 26-year-old lined up as Arsenal’s number nine, what he actually did during the game resonated more with a playmaker than a goalscorer.

Havertz’s Sofascore heat map against Milan tells the story of him adapting his game to act as a creator, taking up positions around and on the right side of the box.

The 2023 signing almost set up a goal, with his movement away from central areas allowing him to find space to fire a low ball into the box.

If Gyokeres was playing, it was a delivery that the forward would’ve loved to receive, opening the door to a potential two-man partnership between Havertz and himself.

Havertz was a playmaker before he became a striker

Havertz was a key creator when he was at Bayer Leverkusen, a role further back that he’d perhaps like to revert to once Gyokeres arrives.

The Germany international has 73 goal contributions to his name in the 183 appearances he’s made as an attacking midfielder, giving Arteta some food for thought.

Havertz doesn’t necessarily need to drop back into the number ten position to support Gyokeres, as the ex-Chelsea ace’s creative intelligence means he could work around the striker.

It will be fascinating to see how Arteta opts to line Havertz up with Gyokeres, with the 26-year-old’s performance against Milan really encouraging.
