What Levi Colwill did better than Bukayo Saka shows just how bad Arsenal star struggled vs Chelsea

Arsenal’s hunt for a win goes on as the Gunners earned a point on the road against Chelsea.

Matchday 11 saw another below-par result for Mikel Arteta’s side, who drew 1-1 with London rivals Chelsea.

The Gunners extended their run without a win to four Premier League games, lowering their win percentage this season to just 45%.

Arsenal head into the international break nine points below league leaders Liverpool, with plenty of talking points coming from the London derby.

Bukayo Saka struggled for Arsenal vs Chelsea

Arteta’s side haven’t experienced a win in the league for over a month, with matters continuing at the Bridge.

Gabriel Martinelli broke the deadlock in the second half however, the Blues had a near-instant response to Arsenal’s opener as Pedro Neto equalised 10 minutes later.

Martinelli’s performance will be placed under the microscope due to a missed chance in the first half although, he was the better-performing winger on the day for the visitors.

On the right, Bukayo Saka was locked down by Marc Cucurella, who was awarded man of the match for his ability to keep the 23-year-old quiet for the majority.

By the end of his 80 minutes on the pitch, Saka had completed only 14 passes and had lost possession 15 times, via Sofascore, telling of the difficulty he had making an impact.

To emphasise how ineffective the Englishman was thanks to Chelsea’s attentive marking, Saka completed zero key passes, with centre-back Levi Colwill recording one to put his countryman to shame.

Saka injury update

It was a difficult afternoon for the Hale End graduate however, his display isn’t the greatest concern from Arsenal’s trip to the Bridge.

Saka came off 10 minutes from full-time in great discomfort, with Arteta not giving a hopeful assessment of his star player’s fitness.

After the game, Arteta shared an update on Saka’s injury by saying:

“They don’t look very good to me. I don’t know [if they are long-term injuries] but they couldn’t finish the game.”

The manager was referring to both Saka and Declan Rice’s injury status, with it now unlikely that the duo head to the England camp for the November international break.
