Arsenal have some much-needed good news for fans following consecutive defeats in the domestic cups at the hands of Newcastle and Manchester United with a potential summer transfer.

Arsenal are set to finalise a move for Martin Zubimendi with a £51m release clause set to be triggered at the start of summer transfer window.

The news comes as some relief to supporters following the devastating news that Gabriel Jesus has suffered a ruptured ACL during the FA Cup defeat to Man United.

There is already excitement at the prospect of Zubimendi lining up alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in the Arsenal midfield next season. However, the signing of the Spanish international could give an indication as to the futures of two midfielders currently at the club.

Thomas Partey and Jorginho out of contract at the end of the season

The signing of Zubimendi is certainly a statement of intent from Arsenal but there is now real doubt surrounding the futures of midfielders Thomas Partey and Jorginho.

According to the Daily Mail, there has yet to be a decision made on offering either Partey or Jorginho a new contract given that both deals run out at the end of the season.

Arsenal’s expected signing of Zubimendi would certainly indicate it could be the end of their Arsenal careers for one if not both of Partey and Jorginho.

Partey has had arguably his best season for the Gunners so far having made 29 appearances across all competitions and reliably filling in at right back when needed.

The importance of Jorginho has already been highlighted this season too, fans praised Jorginho’s performance against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup.

Flamengo interested in signing Jorginho from Arsenal

According to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Flamengo are pushing to sign Jorginho from Arsenal in this January transfer window.

The Brazilian side want Jorginho now despite being able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement for the summer but are said to be reluctant to pay any transfer fee.

Losing Jorginho mid-season for no transfer fee would not make a lot of sense to Mikel Arteta, considering the dependable job that the Italian midfielder often completes when called upon.

Arsenal are interested in Lorenzo Pellegrini and any exit for Jorginho in January would depend on the Gunners replacing the veteran midfielder.

It seems that a midfield revamp is on the cards over the next couple of transfer windows but fans will be more interested at the moment in signings in forward areas this transfer window.
