We might be less than six months on from William Saliba signing a new contract with Arsenal but that’s not to say we shouldn’t be worried over his future.
Saliba remains Arsenal’s best defender – albeit Gabriel pushes him very close – and the club tying him down to a new deal in September of 2025 was huge news.
With Real Madrid lurking in the background, getting Saliba on fresh terms felt massive for the club and we’ve seen this season just how good the Frenchman is.
Real Madrid come calling for William Saliba: How much money do Arsenal ask for?
However, while things are looking rosy for the Gunners right now and Saliba’s partnership with Gabriel is once again proving vital, there is fresh cause for worry in terms of his long-term future.
Marc Guehi to Arsenal could signal William Saliba is leaving
We’ve all seen in the last few days how Arsenal are now keen on signing Marc Guehi.
One of the Premier League’s best defenders, Guehi is a target for many clubs and it makes sense for Arsenal to at least be in the mix.
However, and some may call me a doom and gloom merchant, but this interest in Guehi could well signal some interest in Saliba once again that we aren’t privy to.

After all, when Real Madrid come knocking once and you turn them down, it doesn’t mean the Spanish giants are going to give up. Indeed, if they come knocking again, then turning them down for a second time would be almost impossible.
Add to the fact that Saliba himself admitted that he found Madrid’s interest ‘tempting’ before signing a new deal, and there seems to be legs in an eventual deal here.
Yes, Arsenal are flying and on course to become Premier League champions. But winning the title might be enough for Saliba, who could see his work at the club as done and like many, see the bright lights of Madrid as the only step up he can possibly make.
William Saliba will leave Arsenal eventually
This is in no way a dig at Arsenal but there has to be a realisation that William Saliba is that good that eventually, he will want to move on.
Naturally, there are only a few ‘step ups’ he can find right now and one of them is Real Madrid.
The best of the best challenge themselves at the Bernabeu and we’ve seen countless examples over the years of the best from other clubs moving on to Madrid.
Arsenal enter the Marc Guehi race, in your own words WHY?
At 24, Saliba has ample time to make his mark at Arsenal and then move to Madrid for his peak years.
Sure, he may not leave this summer or even next, but Arsenal’s foray into the market to potentially sign Guehi points to the fact that, eventually, we will see the Frenchman depart.
