It’s over, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is no longer an Arsenal player.

The Gunners confirmed a few hours ago that the Gabon star has left the club after terminating his contract by mutual consent. His next destination hasn’t been made official just yet, but it seems pretty clear that he’s headed to Barcelona.

Aubameyang leaves Arsenal after scoring 92 goals and providing 21 assists in 163 games in all competitions. He was also the captain of our club for over two years and helped us win the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2020.

Aubameyang sends message to Arsenal fans

Right after it was announced that his contract was terminated, Aubameyang took to Instagram to send a heartfelt message to Arsenal fans.

He wrote: “To the Arsenal fans, thank you for making London home for myself and my family for the past four years. We went through ups and downs together and your support meant everything to me. Having the chance to win trophies and the honour of being the captain of this club is something I will forever keep in my heart.

“I have always been 100% focused and committed on doing everything I can for this club which is why leaving without a real goodbye hurts – but that is football.

“I’m sad I did not get the chance to help my teammates in the last few weeks, but I have nothing but respect for this club and truly wish all my guys and the fans all the best and many successful years in the future! Love, Auba.”

The Insider’s View:

It really is a shame how things ended for Auba at Arsenal.

The 32-year-old, irrespective of what happened in the end, is one of the best players to play for us in the Emirates era. He was absolutely outstanding in his first two-and-a-half years with us and he almost carried us in our difficult times.

Auba also helped us win the FA Cup almost singlehandedly. His brace in the semi-final and the final was the reason why Mikel Arteta got his hands on silverware in his first few months as a manager.

It looks like Aubameyang will sign for Barcelona soon and we are almost certain that he’ll be a huge hit there. He deserves nothing but respect for everything he has done for us and we wish him well for the future.
