If there’s one transfer Arsenal fans were certain would happen this summer, it was Granit Xhaka to AS Roma.

The Swiss international has been heavily linked with a move to the Italian capital for over two months now. Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign him, but Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made it clear to the ex-Spurs boss that Xhaka is going nowhere.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

The 29-year-old, who was brilliant for us last season and was even better for Switzerland at the Euros, is in the prime of his career. He has entered the final two years of his contract, which forced Arsenal to consider selling him. But, the Gunners changed their mind, and rightly so.

Edu reportedly felt that selling Xhaka for less than £20 million and reinvesting double that amount on a new central midfielder made very little sense this summer. (Read here)

As a result, Arsenal have decided to offer him a new deal, and it looks like that will be wrapped up very soon. (Read here)

Granit Xhaka ends transfer speculation

Arteta confirmed yesterday that Xhaka is going nowhere and the midfielder seems to have hinted the same. He posted a picture from yesterday’s game on Instagram, calling the Emirates Stadium his ‘home’.

A section of Arsenal’s fan base will be furious with this decision. Some supporters are yet to forgive Xhaka for his outburst two years ago, while a few others have a strong agenda against him for some weird reason.

The reality is that Xhaka, labelled as ‘phenomenal’ by Arteta, is an outstanding player, and most clubs in Europe would love to have him. There are very few in the world who are as good as he is with the ball, and as much as pundits and the media try to make you think otherwise, he’s a real leader.

Arsenal are doing the right thing by keeping hold of Xhaka. He was always going to be a key player for us, but with Thomas Partey set to spend some time on the sidelines with an ankle problem, his presence will become even more important now.
