Arsenal picked up a 1-0 win over Wolves at Molineux last night and Rob Holding, despite not starting the game, is our Man Of The Match, and his stats back that.

The Gunners started the game really well and deservedly went in front. Gabriel Magalhaes was at the right place at the right time and he poked the ball into the back of the net from close range to give us the lead.

Arsenal only got better as the game went on but Gabriel Martinelli’s red card completely changed things. Wolves took control of the game from that point, but we held on, thanks to Holding and co at the back.

Martinelli was given his marching orders in the 69th minute and Mikel Arteta decided to bring Holding on in place of Bukayo Saka just two minutes later.

The Englishman, in his 19 minutes on the pitch, made nine clearances, blocked a shot, intercepted the ball once and won every single one of his aerial duels. He didn’t lose possession a single time either, which shows just how incredible he was. (SofaScore)

Holding’s performance once he came on is one of the biggest reasons why Arsenal managed to hold on yesterday. Gabriel, Ben White, Kieran Tierney and even Cedric were brilliant, but the former Bolton man is our undisputed MOTM.

The Insider’s View:

After Tottenham and Manchester United both slipped up this week, Arsenal simply had to win last night and we managed to do that despite playing over 25 minutes with 10 men.

The spirit, attitude, unity and togetherness the players showed yesterday really is remarkable. They just weren’t ready to accept defeat and this is the sort of mentality we need going forward.

Holding, in a way, has been a forgotten man. Gabriel and White have received all the plaudits this season, while fans can’t wait to see William Saliba return from loan and find a place in the squad next term.

Holding’s place is definitely not certain next season but performances like last night’s show he’s more than good enough to step in and do a job whenever he’s needed.
