Lacazette predicts four future Arsenal captains including surprise 22-year-old

Mikel Arteta confirmed in his press conference today that Alexandre Lacazette is the new Arsenal captain following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure.

The Frenchman has deputized for Auba since the start of the season. He has led the side really well and he will don the armband every time he’s on the pitch until the end of the campaign.

However, Laca is expected to leave the club in the summer. That opens the door for a new club captain and the former Lyon man has recommended four potential options to lead the Arsenal next season.

Alexandre Lacazette: Four future Arsenal captains

In an interview with Arsenal’s official website, Lacazette said: “There are some future captains. Gabriel, big Gabi, has got a presence, leadership at the back. I think when he’s going to be more fluent in English, it will help a lot.

“Ben White as well, he’s more quiet maybe, but by the way he plays, he can be a good leader and maybe with edge can build up.

“Sambi Lokonga, but he’s already been a captain in the past so it’s not hard to say he can be a good captain.

“Kieran as well because I think he’s been a captain as well in the past for the national team a few times. You can see some future captains, or leaders.”

The Insider’s View:

We completely agree with Lacazette’s four-man list.

Gabriel is arguably our best defender and he is a real leader. He is aggressive, vocal and always stands up for his teammates. However, his language barrier could be an issue.

Ben White is a fantastic option too but he has only been at the club for a few months. 22-year-old Albert Sambi Lokonga, who has already been a captain at Anderlecht, is a surprise name, but he’s certainly one to keep an eye on for the future.

However, our pick, as will be many others’, is Kieran Tierney. The Scotsman has been a leader at Arsenal since day one and everyone respects him. He has the experience of leading a big club like Celtic as well, which makes him the perfect option for us next season.
